Sudbury Angels Annual Book Drive

The Sudbury Public Schools and Sudbury Angels are asking for your help to bring much needed books to children in the Fitchburg Public School system, where there are over 300 homeless students and 70% of children come from low income families. The books will be used to restock classroom lending libraries.  The program was brought to Fitchburg four years ago by Bolton resident Erin Vasington, who began under the umbrella group Book Worm Angels.  Last year the Angels merged with another organization operating solely out of Chicago.  Undeterred, Vasington was determined to continue providing books. She created a new organization and named it the Red Raiders Lending Libraries, in honor of the Fitchburg school mascot.  Vasington says, “The teachers tell me how important this program is because many of these children don’t have books of their own at home.”

The group needs to collect 12,000 books annually to keep the program going.  Last year Sudbury residents donated 6,000 books. Vasington says, “I really owe the continued success of this program to the tireless efforts of the Sudbury Angels and the generosity of the Sudbury community.  The teachers in Fitchburg are always so thankful and amazed with the beautiful books that are donated by the town of Sudbury.”
