Massachusetts State Police officers are looking to take impaired drivers off the road this weekend.

Police announced that they will be holding a sobriety checkpoint in an unknown city or town in Middlesex County.

The checkpoint will take place on Friday night and last into Saturday morning during various hours, according to police.

Police said the selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary, safety will be assured, and inconveniences to motorists will be minimized with advance notice.

"The purpose is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public’s awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways," the announcement by State Police said.
