Sudbury Police Arrest Hudson Man Indicted by Grand Jury

With assistance from the Ayer Police Department, Sudbury officers arrested a Hudson man Wednesday night on warrants from Woburn Superior Court.

According to Lt. Scott Nix, Ayer police alerted the Sudbury PD that Ryan M. Saegesser, 27, of 34 Forest Ave., was at the Ayer Motor Inn.

Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone announced in December that Saegesser had been indicted by the grand jury on charges of breaking and entering during the daytime for a felony, larceny over $250 (2 counts), larceny from a building (2 counts), and failure to register as a sex offender.

Nix said the warrant out of Woburn was for breaking and entering during the daytime and failure to register as a sex offender.

Saegesser was transported to Woburn Superior Court Thursday morning to face those charges.

His next court date is Feb. 16 for a pretrial conference.  

 “This defendant is alleged to have planned and calculated this theft, ensuring the dwelling was unoccupied in order to steal numerous personal items which were worth a significant amount of money,” Leone said in a press release. “Upon his indictment and arraignment on his arrest warrant, the defendant defaulted and attempted to elude prosecution. I commend the work of the Sudbury Police Department whose efforts resulted in identifying the defendant as the alleged perpetrator, a convicted sex offender, and for his apprehension last night.”   

According to authorities, on April 25, at approximately 3:14 p.m., Sudbury police responded to a residence on Hudson Road for reports of a home that had been broken into. Upon arrival, police spoke with a caregiver employed by the homeowners who said she had left the home during the day for several hours and when she returned to the residence, she observed that three laptop computers were missing. The homeowners also returned home and discovered numerous additional items missing including the computers, sunglasses valued at $450, U.S. currency, and several pieces of jewelry, including a diamond ring valued at more than $40,000. 

The following day, the caregiver contacted the Sudbury police to inform them that during the day of the theft, she had received two successive telephone calls from a phone number she did not recognize. She told police that because the phone number was not known to her, she let the calls goes to voicemail, but no messages were left. She also informed police that she had spoken to her neighbor and learned that her neighbor’s son, the defendant, had recently been released from jail and had a cellular telephone number that matched the phone number which had called the caregiver. The caregiver stated that the defendant was known to her as he had been hired to complete projects in the homeowners’ residence in 2009. 

Later that day, police spoke with the defendant’s mother who stated that her son was not home and she was not aware of when he would return. 

It is alleged that the defendant broke into the homeowners’ residence where he stole various items, including the diamond ring. Authorities also allege that the defendant pawned the diamond ring and used the funds to purchase a new car for his mother. It is further alleged that the defendant, a convicted sex offender, was not living at his mother’s home which he had registered as his address, but was instead living in Worcester.

Also on Wednesday night, Sudbury police responded to a one-car accident on Dutton Road. According to Nix, the driver struck a stone wall and was transported to UMass Medical Center in Worcester for undisclosed injuries.
