Safewise.com called Sudbury "a quaint community built on heritage, character and progress."

Safewise.com recently ranked its top 50 safest communities in Massachusetts, and atop the list was Sudbury, which the website called "a quaint community built on heritage, character and progress."

The Safewise.com list, released last week, highlighted Sudbury's low crime rate and historic roots that make the town a beacon for families. Safewise is a home security review resource.

"Settled in 1638, you’ll be hard pressed to find a safe city with a history as colorful as Sudbury’s," the report found. "But don’t take our word for it; explore Sudbury’s collection of historic sites through this online tour offered by The Sudbury Historical Society."

Safewise.com reported the following statistics for Sudbury:

  • Violent crimes per 1,000 residents: .06
  • Property crimes per 1,000 residents: 4.17
In addition to low crime rates, Sudbury also has a large number of parks and recreation activities, according to the report, which found that "if you enjoy civic pursuits, Sudbury will pleasantly surprise you."
