Charges Planned for Sudbury Residents After Malicious Burning Incidents

Three Sudbury residents will face multiple charges for a slew vandalism incidents in town since Jan. 16, the Sudbury Police Department said.

According to Lt. Scott Nix, a number of mailbox vandalism cases and fires were reported on Jan. 16.

As recently as Jan. 22, more incidents were reported in the neighborhoods of Emerson Way, Starview Drive and Muskett Lane.

"Several mailboxes were smashed or put on fire," Nix said, "and a 96-gallon Dumpster was also lit on fire."

While investigating the Jan. 22 reports, officers identified two sets of footprints in the snow and were able to follow them back to a Sudbury residence.

"As a result of the investigation, a 19-year-old male and two 20-year-old males were identified as having participated in these events," Nix said. "We anticipate to file charges soon relative to this activity."

Nix said the charges will be:

• Wanton destruction of property;
• Conspiracy;
• Burning of personal property over $25.

The case is stil under investigation.

Until charges are filed, Nix said the department can't release the names of those involved.

In police news from Jan. 23:

• Officers responded to a two-car accident on Hudson Road. There were no injuries and no tows.
• A Puritan Lane resident called police after his ex-wife refused to leave his property. While officers were en route, the resident called back to say she left. Nix said there was no physical altercation and no criminal activity involved. The resident did not file for a restraining order.
• An Old County Road resident reported a UPS package that was delivered to his house was stolen.
