Show cause hearing scheduled in Framingham District Court.

The investigation by the Sudbury Police Department into a mailbox vandalism spree in January has resulted in three Sudbury men facing numerous charges.

According to Lt. Scott Nix, the three men — ages 19, 20 and 20 — face two counts each of the following charges:

  • Wanton destruction of property;
  • Burning of personal property;
  • Conspiracy.

The three men now face a show cause hearing at Framingham District Court.

A show cause hearing requires a party to appear and provide reasons why the court should not perform or not allow a particular action and mandates this party to meet the Prima Facie case set forth in the complaint or Affidavit of the applicant.

The Framingham District Court clerks office said the names of those charged will not be made public unless the case goes to arraignment.

Nix said it is department policy to not release names connected to a show cause hearing.

According Nix, a number of mailbox vandalism cases and fires were reported on Jan. 16. More incidents were reported after Jan. 16 in the neighborhoods of Emerson Way, Starview Drive and Muskett Lane.

"Several mailboxes were smashed or put on fire," Nix said, "and a 96-gallon Dumpster was also lit on fire."

While investigating the Jan. 22 reports, officers identified two sets of footprints in the snow and were able to follow them back to a Sudbury residence.
