TELL US: Who Should Run For Massachusetts Governor?

Gov. Deval Patrick won't run again, and Lt. Gov. Tim Murray wants the job. So do Treasurer Steve Grossman and 2010 Republican candidate Charlie Baker. Who do you think should run for governor?

Lt. Gov. Tim Murray could not hold out any longer. On Thursday, he told the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce he'd like to be governor, according to WBUR.

Mind you, he didn't say he would run, just that he wants to be governor. With the election two years away, starting an official campaign now would be a bit premature.

But Murray's not alone. Governor Deval Patrick has said he will not run in 2014, leaving the door open for Murray and a host of other aspirants for the office. State treasurer Steve Grossman and 2010 Republican gubernatorial candidate Charlie Baker have also expressed interest in a run in 2014. And it wasn't so long ago that Scott Brown was greeted with shouts of "Governor!" during his concession speech.

Who do you think should run for governor? Is there someone out of the box you think would make a great leader of the commonwealth? Or do you want one of these Massachusetts regulars to square off for the corner office? Tell us in the comments below.

Scott Brown. Like him, he'd be perfect for the job and he has a voice that's not difficult to listen to like Elizabeth's and Deval's.

It took "Crash Murray" less time to admit he wants to be Governor than it took him to tell the truth about the high speed early morning "Inspection tour". To me, he is not exactly leader material.

Tsei should run---He ran a decent campaign, is progresive and would represent more of a check and balance on an all Democratic legislature....

Steve Grossman for Governor! He has experience and is progressive, moderate and a long history of working and living in Massachusetts providing meaningful services to the Commonwealth for decades.

Anyone who will uphold the laws, and put the safety of our citizens first. Like getting these illegals off of the roads, and keeping killers in jail where they belong! Are you listening, Deval?

Scott Brown is the perfect choice. We need to balance State politics which for now is predominately Democratic. This has been a one party state for too long.

Scott Brown for sure

I would like to not hear from any of them until less than a year before the election. Let whoever is in their respective offices do their jobs for a while.

too much Scott Brown already! and he was responsible for those SMEAR/Lies TV ads against Warren! Saying the asbestos victims were paid actors! and his campaign trying to evolve as an Independent! He is NOT!!... he is a REPUBLICAN with conservative views about women, their body rights! and and: WHAT has he done for MA, as Senator?
HG Movsesian November 17, 2012 at 08:18 PM
I agree. He'd do a great job.
Kristine Munroe November 18, 2012 at 01:57 AM
I don't see how Scott Brown could possibly win a gubernatorial election after his Senate loss!

Massachusetts has not had any governor in the last 40-50 years who actually cared about Massachusetts. This position seems to only get filled by political climbers who think they can use it as a stepping board to run for president. And if I can't be president, can I at least be the ambassador to Mexico or the Vatican? Whoever will come forward to run in Patrick's place will just be one more version of the same thing because those are the people with the money and the connections to be able to run for an office like that. I'd rather see the governor job eliminated than see this sick joke continue as it is. It's disgusting.

Hat to say this, but we get the government we deserve---MA needs to raise revenues so we authorize casinos instead of investing in public schools---We need new infrastructure so we consider raising taxes without looking into who would oversee construction (read today's Globe story on the head of Mass public safety---Shameful)----On top of that, we have a lenient court system that acquits virtually all first and second time drunk drivers----What MA needs is a bold leader who will take charge and look for revenues where they are without backing down to the beer/alcohol lobby---Tax alcohol and cigarettes---NO reason that beer and wine shouldn't be taxed ----Ever notice that noone in MA can order wine online and we all have to pay the alcohol lobby toll here in MA---How about some common sense? Sorry, but can't see Scott Brown or Tim Murray taking these issues head on---Sad state of affairs....

Haha Warren lied about her heritage and also smeared lies about Brown
Birdwatcher November 19, 2012 at 01:37 AM
Whoever it is, let it be someone for whom we are not just a springboard for a run for president. It needs to be someone who actually understands the state, and cares about the people here. We tend to be a high profile state - and a rung on the ladder to higher office. Please, not Scott Brown.

Hopefully not a Kennedy. I don't dislike them, but they get voted in just because of the last name even if they're not the best candidate for the job. Enough is enough.

Whomever get elected, they need to repeal this In State Tuition for illegals that good old Deval is about to push down our throats.

Karen November 25, 2012 at 02:43 AM
Wow, I can't believe that people think that everything they see on the news, TV ads, the newpaper, or whatever else is the TRUTH. Everyone of the above has their own agenda. Why can't anyone today do their own research and follow what this these people running for election are really about and then make a common sense educated decision. Oh right, if I saw it on tv it must be true! Give me a break
Karen November 25, 2012 at 02:49 AM
I don't care who it is as long as they are not a freakin political hack!!!! Although we are in Mass and there is a great percentage of voters that love the hacks or we wouldn't have what's in office right now!!!!!
TheHam December 06, 2012 at 05:59 PM
Deval's not listening, you can count on that. Vote Scott Brown! He believes in putting US citizens first. He laughs at the idea of amnesty to criminals. SCOTT BROWN FOR GOVERNER!
TheHam December 06, 2012 at 06:01 PM
That is the day I pack up my house and family, throw my damn property taxes out the window and drive far, far away! ZERO tolerance for giving children of criminals preferential treatment over LEGAL US citizen children.
