Sudbury Ranked Safest Place in Massachusetts by Real Estate Report

Movoto reported that Sudbury residents have only a 1 in 237 chance of being a victim of a crime.

When looking to purchase a new home, one of the first qualities buyers look for is a safe neighborhood.

According to one real estate blog, Sudbury is second to none in Massachusetts.

Movoto ranked the 10 safest places to live in the state, and Sudbury was ranked No. 1 in the Bay State, coming in ahead of Weston, Norfolk, Franklin, Hopkinton, Duxbury, Holden, Shrewsbury, Wayland, and Bedford.

The blog said that "residents in our safest town can rest easy" due to a 1 in 18,002 chance of being the victim of a violent crime and a 1 in 237 chance of being the victim of any crime at all.

To rank the safest towns in Massachusetts, Movoto analyzed the FBI's crime statistics from 2012, only taking into consideration towns with population greater than 10,000 residents. There were 168 cities and towns considered in the Movoto rankings.

Criteria for the list included violent crimes (rape, murder and assault), property crime (theft, burglary and motor vehicle thefts), and the odds that residents will be the victim of a crime.
