UPDATED: Curtis Middle School Students Rack Up 9 Art Awards

Curtis Middle School was honored with 10 awards at this year's Scholastic Art Awards. This is a new record for the school, art teacher Scott Greenaway said.

One student earned four awards, which is another Curtis record for individual recognition.

"We are very proud that our school tied for 10th (for number of awards) among all public and private middle schools in Massachusetts," Greenaway said. "This is even more remarkable considering that the Scholastic Art middle school level is grades seven and eight, and our students do not have an option to take art in eighth grade."

The Scholastic Art Awards is the most prestigious student art competition in Massachusetts and garners thousands of entries from across the state in a variety of artistic categories.

The following ECMS students were honored with awards:

Grade seven

• Jake Frissora: Honorable Mention, mixed media category
• Emma Hauck: Honorable Mention, mixed media category
• Brandon Waddill: Gold Key, mixed media category

Grade eight

• Rohini Guin: Gold Key, painting category and Honorable Mention painting category
• Jess Orofino: Honorable Mention, painting category
• Shelley Liu: Silver Key, painting category
• Maddison Manente: Gold Key, painting category and Silver Key, painting category and Honorable Mention, painting category

All of the Massachusetts Silver and Gold Key winners (including Sam, Kathryn, Makayla, and Rachel) have their art on display in Boston (in the MA State Transportation Building, 10 Park Plaza Boston) until April 20.
