Discussion: Does the SPS FY14 Budget Pay Teachers Enough?

The SPS Committee discussed the budget during its meeting last week.

Members of the Sudbury Public School Committee are in the early stages of reviewing the FY14 roll-up budget.

Last week during a meeting at the Senior Center, it was announced the FY14 budget is tentatively set at $37.5 million.

Teacher salary figures included $2.9 million at Noyes Elementary, $2 million at Nixon Elementary, $2 million at Haynes Elementary, $2.7 million at Loring Elementary, and $5.5 million at Curtis Middle School.

So we want to know: Do you think SPS teachers will be paid fair salaries during FY14? Are you worried some may leave for other school districts that offer higher salaries?

Tell us in the comments section below.

If a teacher is receiving $90,000 a year and a 30% benefit package, in addition to a retirement pension it may be a good deal. For instance, a 55 year old teacher who retired after 30 years would receive approximately $72,000.00 a year. The city would also be responsible for $1,790,000.00 for the pension along with full sick, eye and dental medical coverage. How many of us would save over a million dollars for our retirement and have money for a Cadillac medical plan. Not a Bad Deal !

But Dan, It is all for the poor children of Sudbury. Think of the Children!!!! For only 50 cents a day you can get a picture of the student you are supporting.

Dan makes a good point. 90K with golden benefits ain't bad in this economy. And with summers off! I'd take that deal!
