Interim Principal Named at Loring Elementary School

Steven Silvestri will take over for Jeffrey Dees, who accepted a principal's position in Wellesley earlier this year.

Sudbury Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Anne Wilson announced today an interim principal has been hired for Loring Elementary School.

In an email forwarded to Sudbury Patch, Wilson said an interim committee comprised of Stephen Wiltshire, Dawn McNair, Susan Lauver, Barbara Cook, and Michelle Titus unanimously chose Steven Silvestri to take over for the departing Jeff Dees. Silvestri has accepted the offer.

"I am confident that Mr. Silvestri will preserve all the wonderful traditions, instructional work, and caring that is already in place at Loring and help us to continue moving forward with initiatives in progress," Wilson said in the email.

Silvestri will begin his new position on Aug. 13. Silvestri currently serves as interim principal at the Devotion School in Brookline, a position he has held since July 2011.

Silvestri was honored by Massachusetts Elementary School Principals Association as Massachusetts Elementary Principal of the Year in 1997 and by the National Association of Elementary School Principals as National Distinguished Principal (State of Massachusetts) that same year. He holds a Master of Science in Educational Management from Lesley College, a Master of Science in Education from Wheelock College, and a Bachelor of Science in Education from Northeastern University.

"We consider ourselves fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Steven Silvestri and we look forward to a successful and productive year for the entire Loring School community," Wilson said in the email. "Mr. Dees, Mr. Wiltshire and I will work with Mr. Silvestri on a transition plan that will include an opportunity to visit the school on June 11, 2012. During his visit, Mr. Silvestri will have an opportunity to meet with Mr. Dees, Mr. Wiltshire, students, teachers, staff and parents. We will send a schedule of events for June 11 in the next few days."

Dees did not comment on his new position.

"It's a financial opportunity he couldn't pass up," Wilson said on April 10. "The salaries in Wellesley are much higher than in Sudbury. He'll make 25 percent more than here. It's a huge jump in pay."

A message left for Silvestri was not immediately returned.
