Nixon Principal Search Yields No Permanent Candidate

Superintendent of Schools Anne Wilson said the district will hire an interim principal for Nixon Elementary School.

The search for the next Nixon Elementary School principal is ongoing, though the process has turned out different than Superintendent of Schools Anne Wilson initially anticipated.

Wilson confirmed in an email to Nixon parents late last week that while the district narrowed down the search to a finalist for the position, school officials are not hiring a permanent replacement for retiring principal Joni Jay at this time.

"Although we interviewed qualified candidates, after a review of feedback from the initial interviews and finalist forums, we are not able to name a principal at this time," Wilson told parents. "We remain committed to identifying a 'right match' principal for the Nixon community who will help provide the best possible learning and growing environment for our students."

Instead of hiring a permanent principal this spring, Wilson said she will hire an interim principal in the upcoming weeks for the 2014-15 school year.

This will allow the superintendent to open the search for a permanent Nixon principal again in the fall. Wilson said the district can then take longer to find the ideal fit for the position.

"I intend to identify an interim leader who has successful experience as a principal and who will be able to maintain the excellence that exists at Nixon while helping the school community to continue to move forward and prepare for a permanent principal for the FY16 school year," Wilson said.

Wilson added that, like during the most recent round of interviews, there will be opportunities for the Sudbury school community to be involved in the process with public forums as the search ramps up.
