Sudbury Receives $250,000 from State to Help Fund Four Municipal Projects

Massachusetts Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Maeve Vallely Bartlett and Department of Energy Resources Acting Commissioner Meg Lusardi announced this week that they have awarded a total of $7.9 million in grants to towns around the state, including a large sum given to Sudbury.

In total, funds were given to clean energy projects in 43 towns and cities around the state.

Of that $7.9 million total, $250,000 was awarded to the Town of Sudbury for various projects. That figure was the maximum amount that could be given to a single town.

“Thanks in part to the work done in cities and towns across the Commonwealth, Massachusetts has changed its whole approach to obtaining and using energy,” said Bartlett. “This funding will allow these communities to continue the good work they have already begun.”

Sudbury's projects that will be funded are as follows:

• $50,000 - Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School - Parking lot and exterior LED lighting
• $168,000 - Various locations - LED streetlights
• $9,000 - Goodnow Library - Retro-commissioning
• $23,000 - Fairbank Community Center - Replace rooftop unit

“These 43 municipalities demonstrated their commitment to clean energy leadership in becoming Green Communities and investing their initial grants in projects that cut municipal energy use,” said Lusardi. “With the nearly $8 million in additional grants we’re announcing today, they will make further progress toward energy independence while locking in long-term savings for local taxpayers and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.”
