UPDATED: Undercooked Chicken Again Served at a SPS School

Students at Noyes Elementary received the food.

UPDATED: 6:07 P.M

Parent reports of students at Noyes Elementary School being served undercooked chicken surfaced mid-afternoon on Monday, and a release by Principal Annette Doyle confirmed the report.

According to the release, fourth-grade students were served undercooked popcorn chicken "unintentionally."

"The kitchen staff recognized that the chicken was undercooked and took immediate action to remove the chicken from serving line," Doyle said in the release.

"We will follow all protocols and procedures and take appropriate action," Superintendent Anne Wilson said in an email to Sudbury Patch. "Parents of children who may have been impacted were contacted directly by Mrs. Doyle."

"I was informed of the error and initiated an investigation. Sudbury Board of Health and the Whitson's District Manager have been notified of the incident," Doyle said in the release. "In addition, I have been in close consultation with the Director of Business and Finance and the Superintendent.

"This afternoon, Ms. Bradford and I met with the children who may have been impacted and I contacted their parents.

"I believe we have been in contact with all families potentially impacted; however, the following is important information related to undercooked chicken:

  • Bacteria in undercooked chicken incubates in 6 hours to five days
  • Your child should be monitored for stomach and/or intestinal problems for the five days.
  • If your child should develop stomach and/or intestinal problems, contact your primary care doctor.

"If you have questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Bradford or me."

This is the second time in a year undercooked chicken has been served to SPS students.

None of those students reported getting sick.

This is an absolute lie. The "kitchen staff" did not notice the undercooked chicken, students and teachers brought it to the cafeteria workers attention. The truth matters. Ugh. Many of us hate that we can't trust anything we hear from school leadership. Please Dr. Wilson & SPSC, address the issues at Noyes. Enough is enough!

That ridiculous survey that was put out to the parents & staff was a joke! Everyone knows Annette pulled out the bad comments- her ego wont alow it! Everything at Noyes is happy happy happy!

Let's be honest here, Sudbury Public Schools are unraveling. I hear Anne Wilson and Annette Doyle names thrown out there a lot, but are they totally to blame? We need to start putting the blame at the top with the school committee. Are any of them up for reelection? If so we need to vote them out.
Donna Sumner February 12, 2013 at 02:08 AM
Scott Nassa & Matthew Barack are running for Ms Gutchs seat- If you want more of the same nonsense vote for Matthew- he was handpicked by Lisa Gultch and her crew- oh also endorsed by John Drobinski( if he isnt missing) and everyones favorite Lavender Larry. If you want some open , honest and transparent - someone who actually cares for the students & parents of Sudbury- Vote for Scott Nassa!!

K-8 is undergoing evaluation by the state and the public is welcomed to comment...this was reported in The Patch...the Crier only mentioned the evaluation part *(and left out the part about resident's ability to request a survey/interview).

To Donna: Matthew Barack is running for office in Sudbury? If it's the same guy some of my friends have had dealings with we are in deep trouble. The guy is a financial nightmare.

Being someone that cooks professionally and having a child at Loring to see this makes me crazy. Also this popcorn chicken is supposed to help with cooking times. There is NO excuse for undercooked product. I feel bad for the Noyes children and parents knowing this principal is probably pulling down 100K+ and seems to not be doing her job.

Noyes Parent February 12, 2013 at 12:21 PM
Donna Summer- Where are the results of the parent survey at Noyes?
sudburycitizentoo February 12, 2013 at 12:48 PM
@MMM-- if you got off your throne and read the original article it said POPCORN. Not popcorn chicken. Editor finally fixed his mistake. LOL!!!
Sudbury Citizen February 12, 2013 at 12:58 PM
I heard Mr. Barack declared broke in 2010. Has owed the town in back property taxes. Has stiffed a town resident $ 250,000. I don't feel comfortable having him run a $ 38 million budget when he can't handle his own finances. Also advertises to handle divorces for $ 1,000. A real family first man ?
Donna Sumner February 12, 2013 at 12:59 PM
@ Noyes Parent- thats a very good question. Both the parent & teacher survey was collected by Kristin Moffat and Annette Doyle.
Donna Sumner February 12, 2013 at 01:01 PM
I should add that a number of staff did not complete the survey. 1) because they were afraid of the fallout 2) the ones who passed it in had their names checked off a list.
sudburycitizentoo February 12, 2013 at 01:09 PM
LOL! Sudbury Citizen needs to boycott Barack since he is deadbeat. SC is privy to lots of financial info about Sudbury people--makes you wonder if SC is on the fin com...LOL!!! Stellar example of what Sudbury is all about.
Christine Hogan February 12, 2013 at 01:12 PM
According to the letter I received, they removed the CHICKEN from the line. What about cross-contamination? Did they remove ALL the food from the line that the chicken could have come in contact with? Otherwise, any of the children getting food could have been impacted. What about the children eating bagels next to the children eating undercooked chicken: again, cross-contamination.
Donna Sumner February 12, 2013 at 01:30 PM
Excellant point Christine- I would like to know why the kitchen staff failed to take the temp of the chicken ( or any food for that matter) before serving it. Thats a no brainer!
Donna Sumner February 12, 2013 at 01:32 PM
@ sudburycitizentoo- all you need to do is google Matthew Barack - the info is right there. LOL!!!!
SkimThreePercent February 12, 2013 at 01:45 PM
Sort of takes us back to the article proper, Mrs. Bradford and the Board of Health. Is the Board of Health doing everything that the possibly can to ensure the children's safety? I would like to think so. Or are they too just going along for the ride or in some way afraid to do what is best?
Sudburytoo February 12, 2013 at 01:51 PM
Barack is another hand picked right out of the Lavender gang. If you want more of the same in Sudbury, Barack is your man. I will vote Scott Nassa.
sudburycitizentoo February 12, 2013 at 04:43 PM
@Donna Sumner, Great idea to practice "googling" people.
Sudburytoo February 12, 2013 at 05:47 PM
Sudburycitizentoo, "Water and noodles are food, you can eat them right?" Classic.... LOL!
SkimThreePercent February 12, 2013 at 06:44 PM
....and then suddenly the Board of Health Director comes out of his bunker for the apology tour! What a well run Town?
Robert Fucci (Editor) February 12, 2013 at 06:53 PM
I contacted him to be fair.
Sudbury Parent/Taxpayer February 12, 2013 at 07:31 PM
In a related point about mismanagement, many of us have been receiving erroneous bills from the cafeteria services demanding payment for lunches bought as far back as three years ago. When pressed, they generally can't come up with the documentation. Not to mention there are those of us who never allow their kids to buy lunch and still get charged. Very shady.
noyes parent February 14, 2013 at 08:17 PM
Dont look now folks, but I heard there was some paper towel dispensers that where not filled in one of the schools last week....do you know how much bacteria can be spread when children cant properly wash their hands....THE HORROR.....this must be immediately forwarded to Mr Fucci for an exhaustive 11 part series titles "paper towel-gate.....what did Anne Wilson Know, and when did she know it"
noyes parent February 14, 2013 at 08:20 PM
This is a completely nasty and childish post.....I for one will not rest until Mrs. Doyle gets the recognition she deserves as a hard working educator who provides a first class atmosphere for learning for ALL students......and seeing as my outlook on the world is alot more upbeat and positive then yours....I assume i will win this battle....undercooked chicken or not!!!
Rob February 14, 2013 at 09:09 PM
"Noyes Parent" Last year you had similar things to say about raw chicken being served. Fair enough. But when the same situation happens again there you are with the same things you said last year. When the same issues happen over and over again its not necessary the incident that's concerning its the lack of learning from the last one that is. There is about a 50% lack of confidence in our town leadership. From Selectmen to School board its one problem after another. Does this not concern you? Unless of course you are partisan in these incidents and have something to gain that is.
