Boys Hockey Outlasts Winthrop, Advances to North Semifinal

Check back with Sudbury Patch on Monday for complete coverage of Friday night's game.

The Lincoln-Sudbury boys hockey team passed its first test. The Road to the Garden won't get any easier the rest of the way.

On Friday night in Woburn, the Warriors survived a physical and evenly played game against Winthrop, advancing in the North Division 2 boys hockey bracket with a 2-1 victory.

As a result, the locals will take on top seed Beverly on Monday night at Chelmsford Forum with a berth in the sectional final on the line. The winner of the North Division 2 final will advance to play for a state title on the ice of TD Garden.

Junior goalie Derek Ashe made several key saves down the stretch to preserve the win, which helped No. 4 Lincoln-Sudbury improve to 13-2-5 on the year.

Beverly advanced with a 2-1 shootout win over Danvers on Friday. The Panthers will enter the semifinal tilt against the Warriors with a 19-1-1 record.
