L-S Girls Swim Team Races to 5th in North Sectionals

Wayland wins with 392 points.

On Saturday the Lincoln-Sudbury girls swim and dive team competed in the Division 1 North Sectionals at MIT, placing fifth out of 25 teams.

The meet started off with the 200 medley relay. The team of Catherine MacKeen, Ansley Baker, Kim Yang and Leah McCabe came in fifth. The 200 free was won by Marblehead's Ryan Alexander with a very fast time of 1:52.76.

In the 200 IM MacKeen dropped 8 seconds off her seed time for a time of 2:15.80 in eighth place. Megan Griffin, Jenny Genovese and Baker all scored in the 50 free. Griffin led with a third place finish in a time of 24.71.

Yang scored 458.80 points in diving for third place, just 0.65 points separating second and third. Emma Jarczyk and Clara Shealy also did very well, coming in fourth and sixth, respectively.

Griffin swam a 57.56 in the 100 fly, placing second. MacKeen also did well, coming in ninth. In the 100 free, Genovese and McCabe both scored points for L-S with times of 56.82 and 57.75, respectively. The 500 free was won by Marblehead's Megan Alexander with an impressive time of 4:57.31.

The team of Genovese, Kathryn Thomas, McCabe and Griffin placed seventh in the 200 free relay. The 100 backstroke was won by Westford Academy's Jen Marrkand with an excellent time of 55.90.

Baker led the L-S girls in the 100 breaststroke with a third place finish. It was an exciting race between her and Newton South's Ellen Barrett in fourth. In the end Baker out-touched her opponent by 0.04 seconds for a time of 1:10.58, a personal best. Caroline Hultin (1:16.16) also did well in this event.

To end the meet Genovese, Baker, Griffin and MacKeen placed fourth in the 400 free relay.

Dual County League teams dominated the meet with only Marblehead joining champions Wayland, Weston, Westford Academy and L-S in the top five at sectionals. The L-S girls are proud of their swims and are looking forward to finishing the season strong at States this weekend.
