On chilly and windy Saturday afternoon at the MIAA All-State Track Meet at the Bridgewater State University athletic complex, the Linconl-Sudbury girls track team captured two individual state titles and one relay title to finish third overall.
Senior Andrea Keklak defended her 800m title, finishing far ahead of the rest of the field at 2:10.41.
Junior Marika Crowe stunned the crowd, the competition and herself with a dramatic win in the mile. Crowe took the lead with 200m to go, and held off responses by favorites Kathy O'Keefe of Newton South and Alison Lanois of Hamilton-Wenham to win with a time of 5:00.43, a 7-second personal best improvement, and the second-best Massachusetts mile time this season.
Keklak and Crowe teamed up with Sarah Mepham and Megan Broecker to continue the Warriors' four-year reign in the 4x800m relay. L-S's winning time of 9:16.11 is less than a second off the state meet record.
Earning 10 points from each of the first place finishes, and adding 2 points from Leah Potter's seventh place finish in the high jump (5-2.00), the L-S girls amassed 32 points, just three short of Andover's 35 point total, and seven behind team champion Newton North.
Other performances by the L-S girls included:
- Lauren Ready finished 14th in the 100m hurdles (15.98).
- The 4x400m team of Ready, Mepham, Broecker and Caeleigh Georges also finished 14th (4:11.77).
For the boys, the 4x800m team of Stephen Hultin, Josh Kerber, Clay Russell and Matt Barnes finished fourth with a time of 7:56.77.
