Lincoln-Sudbury Baseball Selected for Historic Super 8 Appearance

The Warriors were picked by the selection committee as one of eight teams who will play in the first ever Super 8 tournament.

The Lincoln-Sudbury baseball team has been selected among the best of the state's best high school baseball teams, preparing to play in the first ever Super 8 tournament beginning on Wednesday.

On Monday, the Super 8 selection committee nominated and voted for the eight teams who will participate in the bracket officially known as Division 1A.

Massachusetts boys hockey teams play in the same style tournament each winter, and this year the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association decided it would expand the format to the diamond.

Following an 18-4 regular season record, Lincoln-Sudbury was selected as the No. 6 seed in the Super 8 tournament.

As a result, the Warriors will take on Bridgewater-Raynham in the first round of the winners bracket. First pitch is scheduled for Wednesday at 4 p.m., a road game for the locals.

The winner of that contest takes on either St. John's Prep, a No. 2 seed, or Lowell, the bracket's No. 7 seed. The loser of the Lincoln-Sudbury versus Bridgewater-Raynham game will play the loser of the St. John's Prep-Lowell contest in the single elimination losers bracket.

Newton North earned the No. 1 seed in the Super 8 tournament thanks to a record of 19-1 on the year.
