Lincoln-Sudbury Tennis Takes Aim at Title Match Appearance on Tuesday

The Warriors take on undefeated top seed Lexington on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lincoln-Sudbury boys tennis team is making its first appearance in the postseason in 13 years. The Warriors are showing no signs of rust in their return to the playoffs.

On Tuesday afternoon the locals will face a steep task as they hit the courts against unbeaten No. 1 seed Lexington in the North Division 1 semifinal game.

The winner of Tuesday's match takes on No. 3 seed Acton-Boxboro, which edged Andover by a 3-2 margin to advance to the championship.

Lincoln-Sudbury, meanwhile, earned the No. 13 seed in the bracket thanks to an 8-8 regular season. They were the lowest seed in the tournament, but haven't been playing like it.

In the opening round, which took two days to play due to rain, the Warriors clipped No. 4 seed Cambridge Rindge & Latin, 3-2. That set up a date with fellow underdog Lawrence, the bracket's No. 12 team.

During that quarterfinal match, Lincoln-Sudbury had no issues dispatching of Lawrence, cruising to a 5-0 win.

Brothers David and Matthew Hyer have been a key piece of the team, playing together at No. 1 doubles. In the opening round they earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Cambridge R&L.

Jack Darley was a 7-5, 6-0 winner against Cambridge Rindge & Latin while Chris McGean and Doug Hornstein were victorious at No. 2 doubles.
