Shnapir's Successful Olympic Run Comes to an End

Earlier this week, the pairs figure skaters wrapped up in ninth place overall.

Simon Shnapir and Marissa Castelli have wrapped up their figure skating events in Sochi. And it's safe to say that New England's own Olympians proved they belong with the world's best.

During their Olympic journey, which concluded with their final competition on Wednesday, Sudbury's Shnapir and Rhode Island resident Castelli finished with a bronze medal in the team event and a ninth place overall finish in pairs figure skating.

Though they didn't medal, Shnapir and Castelli impressed in Russia. During their free skate, the duo snagged a 120.88 score to end with a total score of 187.82.

According to a story in the Boston Globe, Shnapir and Castelli said they were excited about the scores they put up during their first Olympics, and that they are looking forward to some down time in Sochi watching the remainder of the games.

For Shnapir, that means some time in the country that he was born in.

"We can totally feel the energy of the crowd and I'm feeling the love from my home country," said Shnapir, according to the Boston Globe story. "We're feeling it from both sides, the Russian fans and the American fans. I have really grown a new love for everything here."
