Sudbury Runner Finds Her Stride at Georgetown University

A Sudbury resident is thriving at the Division 1 level with Georgetown University.

The Georgetown University track and field program is heading to the postseason with high hopes. And a main reason for that is a Sudbury resident who is setting records as she helps the Hoyas succeed.

Andrea Keklak on Saturday led Division 1 Georgetown with a blazing performance at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa.

Keklak competed in the 800-meter run and finished fourth in the event, which was the fasted ever seen at Iowa's Lied Center. All three of the top finishers broke the existing meet and facility record, and Keklak was not far off of that pace.

Her time was among the best in Georgetown history. Running a personal record of 2:04.64, Keklak now holds the second-fastest time in the event in Georgetown history, just off of the time of 2:03.95 set in 1997 by Miesha Marzell.

Prior to enrolling at Georgetown, Keklak attended Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School. She was a four-time Massachusetts state champion, once in cross country, once in the 800-meter run and twice in the 1,000-meter run as she became a high school All-American.

Next up for the Hoyas is the Big East Championship meet on Friday and Saturday in New York City, where Georgetown will rely on the Sudbury native to help them compete for a conference title.
