Warriors Lacrosse Team Throttles Cambridge in Playoff Opener

Lincoln-Sudbury cruised to a 17-1 victory on Wednesday and will face North Andover in the quarterfinal.

There was no need for the Lincoln-Sudbury boys lacrosse team to be on upset alert.

Anything can happen in the MIAA playoffs, but the No. 3 seed Warriors never gave No. 11 Cambridge any hope in the teams' playoff opener Wednesday as the locals steamrolled their way into the North Division 1 quarterfinal with a 17-1 victory.

Lincoln-Sudbury extended its lead to 10-0 after a single quarter, and pushed it to 14-0 by halftime thanks to a gaudy seven goals from Mike O'Connell.

The shutout remained in tact by the time the horn rang to end the third quarter, with the Warriors entering the final frame up 17-0. Cambridge got on the board in the final quarter, but that was all the offense they could muster and LS advanced with the easy win.

Following the victory, the Warriors advanced to face No. 6 seed North Andover, with edged No. 11 Central Catholic, 9-8, in its opening round tilt. That contest is slated for Saturday at 2 p.m., a home contest.

The winner of that contest will advance to the North Division 1 semifinal on June 5 against either Westford Academy or Billerica.

In other Lincoln-Sudbury action, the baseball team was rained out of its scheduled Super 8 opener on Wednesday. As a result the local nine will travel to Bridgewater-Raynham at 2 p.m. on Thursday, with the winner facing St. John's Prep in the next round and the loser falling to the single elimination losers bracket.

After a 9-10 regular season, the Lady Warriors softball team earned the No. 23 seed in the North Division 1 softball bracket. They will face Revere on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the winner facing Chelmsford the following day.

The girls lacrosse team, the No. 2 seed in East Division 1, hits the field on Friday against Framingham at home beginning at 4 p.m.
