Sudbury Residents Preparing for 100-Mile Bike Ride to End Alzheimer's

The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 12, and will span a route from Western Massachusetts to Southern New Hampshire.

A group of Sudbury residents is preparing for a bicycle ride this summer that aims to help bring an end to a disease that impacts many.

Doug, Blake, and Kimberlee McCartney, each of Sudbury, will bike 100 miles on July 12 during the 2014 Ride to End Alzheimer's.

The ride begins and ends in Fort Devens, and there are courses that include a two-mile family ride along with 30, 62, and 100-mile routes that reach from Western Massachusetts to Southern New Hampshire.

The Sudbury residents will be participating in the longest of the routes during this summer's event.

According to organizers, the Ride to End Alzheimer’s grew from a small, family-inspired event. The event was previously called the Memory Ride.

The event raises awareness and funds to support the Alzheimer’s Association’s research of treatments and eventually a cure for Alzheimer’s, organizers said.

“Over the past 18 years, Ride to End Alzheimer’s has raised more than $3 million to fund critical Alzheimer’s research through the Alzheimer’s Association’s research grants program,” said James Wessler, CEO and President of the Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts/New Hampshire chapter. “We are grateful for the dedication of Doug, Blake, Kimberlee and all of those participating in the Ride for their commitment to finding a cure and raising awareness.”
