Young Sudbury Residents Hike to Raise Money for Families of Mount Everest Victims

Young Sudbury residents raised money to benefit the families of sherpas who died in April on Mount Everest.

The view from atop Mount Monadnock in New Hampshire wasn't the only reason a recent hike was a rewarding experience for a group of young Sudbury residents.

Members of Local, Nation, World, a community service group of Sudbury eighth graders interested in making a difference, recently climbed the mountain in the Granite State to raise money for the Sherpa Family Fund.

The fund helps raise money for the families of sherpas who were killed during the deadliest avalanche in Mount Everest history. Sherpas are locals who serve as guides for Everest climbers.

During their Mount Monadnock fundraiser, the students raised $880 that was donated to the Sherpa Family Fund.
