Clean-Up of Evasive Plants, "Shake" It Up at Goodnow Library This Weekend

A smattering of events happening in Sudbury this weekend.

1. On Sept. 14, help to reduce the harmful invasive plants at Heritage Park. Volunteers are not just needed for physical work. Assistants who will interact with younger participants are also needed.

The trees on the Concord Road side of the park were destroyed by Oriental Bittersweet vines. They were cut down because these were not safe so near the sidewalk.  There was not a replanting plan. The invasive roots are still in the ground. Other harmful and unsightly plants have taken up residence there and are filling up the empty location. SWEET, Inc. is willing to try to remove these harmful plants and put replacement species in this area. But without help, the plan would not be achieved quickly or at all.

A replacement plant day is scheduled for Oct. 19 (rain date Oct. 20) Park at Town Hall and walk across to the park. For further information, contact Rebecca at 978-505-1301

2. The Friends of the Goodnow Library invite you to come experience the words and characters of William Shakespeare as never before. The popular “Sunday Afternoons at the Goodnow” series returns on Sept. 15, with actor Stephen Collins in his one-man show “Shake-Scene.”

From the evil machinations of Richard III to the philosophical bantering of Falstaff, Stephen brings the Bard’s words to life.

Shakespeare’s tragedies, comedies, histories and Sonnets are all
represented in this exciting show.

The performance begins at 3 p.m. Admission is free and refreshments will be served.
