Weekend Happenings: Venture Crew 1776 Open House, Loring Lecture and More

Check out these events going on in Sudbury.

1. Venture Crew 1776, Sudbury's youth-led, coeducational high adventure program, will hold an open house at 7 p.m. on Oct. 6, at 18 Wolbach Road, off Route 27. Venturing is open to all young men and women aged 14-21, regardless of prior experience with Scouting-related events. With support from adult advisors, youth members plan and lead exciting outdoor activities, such as camping, climbing, hiking, kayaking, skiing, cycling, ice climbing and whitewater rafting. All prospective members are encouraged to attend the open house; for more information, contact Molly Schineller or Isaac Feldberg (current L-S seniors) at info@venturecrew1776.org.

2. The Sudbury Historical Society, with presenter Jane Graham, will sponsor a talk on the Rev. Israel Loring of Sudbury (1682-1772) on Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. at the Sudbury Town Hall.

Graham will discuss Loring, who served as a spiritual leader in Sudbury for 66 years and left behind extensive journals of his time and tenure here. Loring made his home next door to Town Hall at what is now known as the Loring Parsonage.

The talk is free for SHS members and a $5 donation is suggested for non-members. Refreshments will be served after the program.

3. The Sudbury Fire Department along with the Sudbury Police Department will host a Public Safety Day on Oct. 6 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will be held at Sudbury Fire Headquarters located at 77 Hudson Road in Sudbury. The Open House is aimed at teaching families about Sudbury’s Public Safety services.

This Public Safety Open House commemorates National Fire Prevention Month. Participants will receive safety tips from both the Fire Department and Police Department. The event will have numerous police, fire and rescue vehicles on display. There will be an auto extrication demonstration, safety handouts, and Papa Gino’s will provide free coloring sheets and pizza.
