Brendan Walsh, Will Maloney, Lars Hjerpe lead Dodgers past Diamondbacks.

Dodgers’ Brendan Walsh had a two run double, Will Maloney had an RBI, Lars Hjerpe had 2RBI and pitched an effective inning (0 earned runs), Sinjin Ledbetter had a hit, pitched two innings (4K), Wilson Sneath had a hit and pitched two innings (5K’s). Jarrod Shoemaker places 24th in San Diego.
Sudbury native Jarrod Shoemaker, a 2008 Olympian, fell short in his quest to make the 2012 U.S. Olympic team as the triathlete finished a disappointing 24th Saturday at the ITU World Triathlon San Diego. "Unfortunately, Jarrod did not qualify for the Olympics this past Saturday. It is a real disappointment for Jarrod," his agent, Michael O'Neil, told Sudbury Patch in an email. "This is the unforgiving side of sports — on one day, someone else has the race of their life and the expected Olympians don't make the team." O'Neil said Shoemaker was not available for comment. Sam Winneg sparks Cardinals offense in victory over Royals.
(EDITOR'S NOTE: The following was submitted by Paula Mackenzi.) Cardinals 9, Royals 6 (5 innings) The Cardinals held off a late Royals rally for the victory. The Royals’ offensive attack was led by Sam Winneg (3-3, RBI, RS), James Ensley (1B, RBI, RS), Ryan Cusick (SAC RBI). Braden O’Connell banged out a run-scoring double and Jake Mackenzi had the other Royals extra base hit with a double. Ethan Beatty, Jake Maillet and Drew Teitelbaum (RBI) all had solid base hits. Defensively, Maillet made a diving catch in left field, Drew Teitelbaum stopped a hard-hit ball from getting past him at second base, and a perfect heads-up play by starting pitcher Ryan Cusick and catcher Seamus Fagan tagged a sliding runner at home for an out. Dylan Goldman strikes out 4 as Twins cruise past Rangers.

Week #2 (Monday 4/30 to Sunday 5/6) Sunday, May 6 Twins 14, Rangers 6 Close game played by both teams until the Twins broke away with six runs in the last two innings to win 14 to 6. Dylan Goldman pitched three strong innings, gave up two runs, struck out four. Spectacular defense by Blake Thomas and 1st base Kirsten Kelly. Catchers Chris Williams, David Marchand made big stops behind the plate all day. Offensively, Rangers’ were lead by Kirsten Kelly (1hit,1RBI,1 run), Dylan Goldman (2hits, 2 runs), and Jack Ginand (2 hits, 3RBIs). Pitcher Ryan Cusick fans 6 in victory for Royals.

SUNDAY, MAY 6 Royals 8, Rangers 7 The Royals scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for a come-from-behind victory over the Rangers. The Rangers scored four times in the top half of the frame to take a 7-3 lead. The Royals received solid pitching from Ryan Cusick (6 Ks), James Ensley, Jake MacKenzi, and Jack Maillet. Its offense was set up by Ensley (3-for-3 2 2Bs), Ryan Cusick (3-for-3, 2B), and Abby Volo (3-for-3, 3B). The sixth-inning rally was set up by clutch hits from Seamus Fagan, Ethan Beatty, and Jake Mackenzi, and Maillet’s game-winning single scored Noah Gies from third. Royals 10, Pirates 9 (9 innings) The Royals outlasted the Pirates in a three-hour, nine-inning game with a 10-9 victory. After two scoreless frames, the Pirates scored twice in the top of the ninth, but the Royals rallied in the bottom of that inning, scoring three runs. James Ensley (3-4, 2 1Bs, 2B) and Sam Winneg, got on base with back-to-back singles and eventually scored, and Ryan Cusick’s key base hit moved Seamus Fagan to third. Abby Volo’s (2-5, 2 2Bs) hard hit line-drive to centerfield drove in the winning run. Volo and Fagan set up the pitching, with Ethan Beatty, Noah Gies, and Sam Winneg holding the Pirates to three runs over the last five innings.
