Incumbent Tom Conroy was challenged on the Democratic primary ballot by Steven Hakar.
With 13 of 14 precincts reporting, incumbent representative Tom Conroy (D-Wayland) had secured 89 percent of the vote on his way to a Democratic ticket primary win over challenger Steven Hakar (D-Framingham), Boston.com is reporting. Hakar had garnered 227 votes (11 percent) to Conroy's 1,860, according to numbers reported on Boston.com. Wayland's Conroy is seeking his fourth term as the 13th Middlesex District representative, while Hakar is a first-time candidate for a state position. In all, Boston.com reports, 2,087 votes were cast across 13 of 14 precincts in the district. "I want to thank everybody who supported me today and over the course of the past six years," Conroy said. Having given the matter great deal of thought and consideration, I have come to the conclusion that I will withdraw from the race for state representative for the Middlesex 13th district effective immediately. Several factors have led me to this difficult decision. When I entered this race, our current state representative, Tom Conroy, was engaged in a spirited campaign for the United States Senate. His decision to run for re-election to a fourth term as state representative left me challenging a Democrat with similar policy ideals and one I had supported in the past. Tom Conroy will not be running for a U.S. Senate seat in 2012, but he will pursue re-election as the incumbent representative for the 13th Middlesex District.
Tom Conroy officially announced Monday he is withdrawing from the 2012 U.S. Senate campaign and, subsequently, his intention to run for a fourth term in the Massachusetts House. “It’s the right thing to do for me, for my family, for the people of the 13th Middlesex District,” Conroy said in a phone call with Patch. Conroy, a Democrat from Wayland, entered the 2012 Senate Democratic primary race in June and soon thereafter launched a 650-mile walk throughout the Commonwealth geared toward meeting constituents and talking through issues. Joseph Nolan briefly announced his bid at a Monday night Board of Selectmen's meeting, but made a more formal announcement Tuesday afternoon.
Joseph Nolan, a third-term Wayland Board of Selectmen member, has announced his intention to run as a Democratic candidate for the 13th Middlesex District seat in the November 2012 Massachusetts house elections. Nolan, a lifelong resident of Wayland, said the "tipping point" in his decision to run for the seat came with the "substantive redistricting of this seat" by the legislature in November. The district, which is currently comprised of Wayland, Sudbury and Lincoln, will lose one Wayland precinct and the Town of Lincoln altogether and will pick up a precinct in Framingham and three precincts in Marlborough.
