For almost a year parents of Sudbury Public Schools students have said they want more transparency from the school committee and Superintendent Anne Wilson after the sudden dismissals of former Noyes Elementary School teacher Janice Donahue and Curtis Middle School Administrator Peter Fardig. The school committee thinks it has a solution that will appeal to all parents. According to SPS Committee member Lucie St. George, a new monthly cable show has been created on SudburyTV, "Be In the Know About SPS." "Our mission for 'Be in the Know About SPS' is to further communicate to you by showcasing various administrators and staff, giving residents a chance to hear more in depth about what we are doing for our children and to keep viewers better…

December’s fatal shootings of 26 people at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut prompt security changes in Sudbury.
Sudbury’s elementary schools began locking their front doors on Monday, the one-month anniversary of the horrific school massacre in Newtown, Conn., which prompted schools across the country to review safety procedures in the hopes of preventing a similar tragedy. At the Jan. 16 meeting of the Sudbury Public Schools Committee, Superintendent Anne Wilson said temporary door attendants have been monitoring the front doors this week and will continue to do so until new doors are installed. Those new doors will include features such as video cameras and a buzzer system, she said. Officials said the cost for installing the new doors has been estimated at less than $100,000. The new doors should be in place by March, they said. “We feel good …

Anne Wilson's contract was changed as she will receive a 3 percent raise.
The Sudbury Public Schools Committee approved changes in the contract for Superintendent Anne Wilson during Wednesday night's meeting at the Sudbury Senior Center. Wilson's contract now includes a 3 percent raise in compensation. The contract was previously negotiated in a private executive session and was approved during Wednesday night's regular meeting with very little discussion. Wilson has been under scrutiny from parents and other residents this year after she was involved in the dismissal of longtime Noyes Elementary School teacher Janice Donahue back in May, which ended in a financial settlement. She also fired secretary Diane LaChapelle a year ago, which resulted in LaChapelle slapping a wrongful termination lawsuit against SPS …

Brooke Patterson says quitting her position and taking a job in Hudson was 'the right move for me.'
(EDITOR'S NOTE: Sudbury Patch's interview with Brooke Patterson happened before the resignation of Peter Fardig.) Former Curtis Middle School special education teacher Brooke Patterson wants the public to know how much she appreciated her time spent with Sudbury Public Schools and how much she admired Prinicpal Steven Lambert and administrator Peter Fardig. Patterson, who suddenly left her post in September to take a job at JFK Middle School in Hudson, told Sudbury Patch she wanted to clear up the reasons behind her departure. "I appreciate getting my side of story out," she said. "There seems to be a lot of confusion." Patterson said she gave Superintendent Anne Wilson two weeks notice, hand-delivering a resignation letter in September, …

Peter Fardig is the second person this year employed at Sudbury Public Schools to face accusations against a student.
Peter Fardig, the Curtis Middle School administrator who was put on leave Thursday by Superintendent Anne Wilson, is facing a possibly similar fate former Noyes Elementary School teacher Janice Donahue suffered through earlier this year after it was learned he is facing a 51A report. Cayenne Isaksen of the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families confirmed in an email on Saturday that a 51A report has been filed against Fardig, but did not go into further details about the case. When DCF receives a report of abuse and/or neglect, called a 51A report, from either a mandated reporter or another concerned citizen, DCF is required to evaluate the allegations and determine the safety of the children. Fardig is being forced to stay …

Peter Fardig, the Curtis Middle School administrator who was put on leave Thursday by Superintendent Anne Wilson, is being forced to stay quiet on the matter, he told Sudbury Patch when reached at his home Friday afternoon. "I'm not supposed to comment," he said. According to an email sent to parents by Wilson late Thursday, Fardig was placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation into "certain allegations." When asked if he was told what those allegations were, Fardig replied: "I can’t tell you anything. It's still an ongoing investigation." Wilson's secretary said she was out of her office and in meetings the rest of the business day Friday. In her email, Wilson said the law prevents her from discussing the matter, but did…
