The full text of the 2013 Town Meeting Zoning Articles can be downloaded here. The Board of Selectmen sided with the advice of town counsel over the method of four articles submitted by Ralph Tyler.
"I see where this decision is going. This is why we need change in this town." And with those words, Sudbury resident Ralph Tyler walked out of Town Hall Tuesday night during the Board of Selectmen's meeting, convinced his attempt to add four warrant articles for Annual Town Meeting would not go through. The Board granted Tyler time to argue why his method of submitting four articles together with the required number of signatures should be allowed. Both Chairman Larry O'Brien and Selectman John Drobinski said they did not feel comfortable going against the advice of Town Counsel Paul Kenny. "My initial concern is as John said, I would be far stretched to give it serious thought," O'Brien said. " You’ve been at Town Meeting as long as I …

Jim Cavanaugh is bringing a warrant to Annual Town Meeting to add an amendment to buffer zones around schools and playgrounds.
When Jim Cavanaugh heard Sudbury children could hear automatic gunfire while playing at Nixon and Noyes elementary schools, he knew something had to be done about that. The Codman Drive resident and others are bringing a warrant article to Annual Town Meeting in May to change the bylaw that allows the use of guns as close as 500 feet of dwellings, and have in include an amendment in relation to schools and playgrounds. "Over the last few years, there's been occasional gunfire around town," he said. "Kids at playgrounds have heard it. And I'm wondering how is it possible there is shooting so close to our schools?" The amendment would set a half-mile buffer zone around schools, temples and playgrounds, he said. Cavanaugh said the push to …

As a Sudbury native and farmer/owner of Siena Farms, a 50-acre vegetable farm here in North Sudbury, I am writing to passionately encourage every voting town resident to come to Town Meeting next week to raise their hand in support of the permanent preservation of Pantry Brook Farm (Article 30). Preserving farmland preserves – and creates – farming. Indeed, there would be no Siena Farms if not for the devoted work of the Sudbury community over the last half-century in preserving some of its most productive farmland, as the majority of our annual cropping occurs on protected farmland here in Sudbury. As a result, we are able to grow fresh organic food to serve a 500-member CSA community, as well as area farmers’ markets and restaurants, …

The League of Women Voters of Sudbury encourages every Sudbury voter to attend Town Meeting, which starts Monday, May 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School auditorium. The League supports 13 articles on the 2012 Town Meeting warrant, based on League positions taken after studies and consensus by its members. We support Article 14 on town center traffic improvements. The League also supports all of the articles involving the Community Preservation Fund, Articles 24 through 33, including the recommendations for the Pantry Brook Farm preservation restriction and for the purchase of the property at 15 Hudson Road in the Town Center. The two non-binding resolutions covering the Rail Trail, Articles 34 and 35, also have …

With Town Meeting less than a week away, it is time to crack open the warrant and dig into articles. The challenge with Town Meeting is the difficulty asking an extended series of questions and actually getting answers, or even having a debate. So this year, vowing to be more prepared, I have already combed the warrant and submitted questions to the various town committees. Here is a summary of some positions and questions I have on the articles. Article 4 - FY 13 Budget The warrant does not list the current OPEB liabilities the town and school systems have accrued. These figures represent the future payments we will need to make to retirees for both pensions and health benefits. Also not listed is the rental income the town receives from…

sudburycitizentoo 7:45 am on Saturday, March 2, 2013 Look up the definition of PREEMPTIVE STRIKE in that new book of yours. This comment says it all, doesn't it? It's not about what's in the best interest of the town, it's all about preservation and control of power. Sudburycitizentoo, you have just made another point for a yes vote for 3-5.   more ›
