Babe Ruth Dancing at Lake Chauncy

In 1904, an amusement park was added to Lake Chauncy which included bowling lanes, boat rentals and an area to throw horseshoes, which attracted a famous Sudbury resident.

Babe Ruth dancing the night away at Lake Chauncy may just be a rumor, but its no rumor that Lake Chauncy used to be much more than a town beach.  Back in 1876, Samuel Gates Henry, the man who constructed the Henry Block, completed construction on Chauncy Grove - an area of land near the present day beach where local residents were able to picnic and enjoy the water. Kris Allen's book, On The Beaten Path, describes Chauncy Grove as an area where Westborough residents enjoyed the nation's centennial - ushering in our country's 100th year with "hurdle-races, foot-races, swimming-matches, double-shell races, and other contests". Proposed Baseball Complex Presented to Community Preservation Committee

Appraisal of Fairbank Farm property also approved.

Proponents of building a baseball complex at the current site of the town-owned Malone gravel pit off Route 117 continued to make the rounds of town committees on Wednesday night with a presentation to the Community Preservation Committee (CPC). If the project proceeds, the committee would be partially responsible for its initial funding. Present on behalf of the initiative were Scott McGavick, president of Sudbury Babe Ruth Baseball, and Mike Walsh, president of the Sudbury Little League. The proposed plan calls for the construction of two 90-foot diamonds for Babe Ruth and two 60-foot diamonds for Little League.
