Boy Scouts Re-Considering Ban on Gays

Boy Scouts of America will take up the issue at is national board meeting next week.

Boy Scouts of America is considering changing its longstanding policy against allowing openly gay members, according to a news release from the organization Monday. Under the change now being discussed, local Councils would be able to decide for themselves how to address the issue — either maintaining an exclusion of gays or opening up their membership. Monday's announcement of the possible change comes after years of protests over the policy — including petition campaigns that have prompted some corporations to suspend donations to the Boy Scouts. In Sept. 2012, Patch reported more than half of the parents of Cub Scout Pack 12, based out of Plymouth Church under Pack Leader Jim Been, sent a letter to the executive director of Knox Trail …

Sudbury's Shaq Takes Second in Pinewood Derby

The Knox Trail Boy Scout Council awarded Boston Celtics star Shaquille O'Neal with its Distinguished Citizen Award last night.

The Knox Trail Boy Scout Council awarded basketball star Shaquille O'Neal with its Distinguished Citizen Award last night in Framingham at the Sheraton. The Celtics star learned how to tie a square knot and participated in a Pinewood Derby race, too. When asked later by a Scout which was worse his twisted ankle or losing to a bunch of Scouts in the Pinewood Derby, the honored guest jokingly asked the Scout to ask that question to his face and not from the audience. Then jokingly told him it would cost him a box of thin mint Girl Scout cookies to get the answer.
