No Charges Yet for Local Duo Who Drove Onto Willis Lake

White sedan was towed Thursday afternoon after it partially plunged through the ice around midnight.

The two Sudbury residents who drove a white sedan across frozen Willis Lake just after midnight on Thursday have yet to be charged, Lt. Robert Grady said Friday morning. The couple, a male and female in their mid 20s, were taken to Emerson Hospital Thursday as a precaution, Lt. Scott Nix said on Thursday. It took nearly 17 hours for the car to be removed from the lake. One attempt resulted in a towing apparatus breaking through the ice and getting stuck. A larger tow truck had to come in to the area to get both vehicles out of the lake. The car was finally on dry land at about 4:30 p.m. Sudbury Fire Chief Bill Miles had personnel ready with emergency suits in case anyone fell through the ice. VIDEO: Car Stuck on Willis Lake Pulled Out

Sudbury police say two local residents drove the car onto the lake around midnight.

It took nearly 17 hours, but the car that was stuck on Willis Lake is finally out. It took two towing machines to get the white sedan out of the frozen lake. One of the machines was partially submerged from earlier attempts. Two occupants, both Sudbury residents, a male and female, were taken to Emerson Hospital for precautionary reasons, Sudbury Police Lt. Scott Nix said.
