L-S Girls Cross Country Team Grabs Eastern Mass. Title

Warriors edge out Needham, 51-55.

The Lincoln-Sudbury girls cross country team added another win to its undefeated season on Saturday, winning the MIAA Eastern Division 2 Cross Country Championship in Wrentham.  (EDITOR'S NOTE: The following was submitted to Sudbury Patch.) The Warriors' depth once again prevailed with four runners placing in the top 15, enabling the squad to overcome a strong performance by Needham, which placed three runners in the top eight. LS's score of 51 points narrowly edged Needham’s 55. Lincoln-Sudbury Girls Cross Country Team 1st in DCL Championship Meet

JV and freshmen squads also fared well.

(EDITOR'S NOTE: The following was submitted to Sudbury Patch.) The Lincoln-Sudbury Girls Cross Country program dominated the multi-race, Dual County League Championships last Friday held at LSRHS. The varsity squad had redemption on their minds as last year’s race was won by a talented Weston HS team breaking a 3 year, LS win-streak. With an impressive display of team-depth and youth, the Lady Warriors powered past their DCL competitors with the varsity placing 5 runners in the top 11 spots. L-S Girls Cross Country Team Captures 7th Straight DCL Title

Warriors also finish first at invitational meet in New York.

The Lincoln-Sudbury girls cross country team continued it undefeated season this weekend at the Reebok-Manhattan College HS Cross Country Invitational in the Bronx, N.Y. With more than 34 teams racing, both the varsity and JV teams showed determination and depth in their respective races. The girls varsity finished 1st and was led by sophomore Sydney Clary who finished 7th in a time of 15:28, She was followed by Morgane Butler (15th/15:44), Katie LaScaleia (16th/15:46),  Daniela Hargus (24th/16:03), Sam Cook (25th/16:03), Brianna Bisson (50th/16:35) and Dori Lustig (85th/17:14).    The Junior Varsity squad also had a strong race grabbing 2nd place and was paced by freshman …

LINCOLN SUDBURY GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY WINS MANCHESTER, NH INVITATIONAL MEET (EDITOR'S NOTE: The following was submitted to Sudbury Patch.) The Lincoln-Sudbury Girls Cross Country team had a busy week with a big win over Acton-Boxborough to improve its record to 2-0 for the season. It was a true team effort as L-S took places 2-9 with all 8 L-S runners finishing within 4 seconds of each other. Sophmore Sydney Clary led the group with a time of 17:56 for the 2.75 mile course followed closely by Sam Cook 17:56,Brianna Bisson 17:57, Katie LaScaleia 17:57, Daniela Hargus 17:57, Morgane Butler 17:57, Dory Lustig 17:58 and Ariel Keklak 18:00. Lincoln-Sudbury Boys Cross Country Team Sprints to Division 2 Title

Girls squad settles for second.

Lincoln-Sudbury senior Matt Barnes paced an impressive effort for the boys cross country team with a fifth-place finish (16:47) on the 3.1-mile course at Franklin Park as the Warriors capture the Division 2 title on Saturday. The Warriors tallied 64 points to earn the championship. L-S had three runners in the top 10, and their top five all placed in the top 25. Eli Hoenig (sixth, 16:48), Connor Daly (eighth, 16:51), Matt O'Brien (22nd, 17:18) and Greg Holman (23rd, 17:20) all finished strong in the race. Michael Quint (40th, 17:42) and John Ruymann (50th, 17:53) rounded out the L-S squad's efforts. The Warriors girls team were runners-up, scoring 75 to Masconomet's 65. L-S Boys Cross Country Team Earns Sweep

The Warriors beat Newton South and Concord-Carlisle.

The Lincoln-Sudbury boys cross country team faced a tough challenge Tuesday afternoon with a tri-meet against Dual County League foes Newton South and Concord-Carlisle, but the Warriors proved tough enough as they swept the meet. L-S defeated host Newton South, 19-43, and C-C, 20-38. Warriors senior Matthew Barnes won the race with a time of 15:16 on the 2.8-mile course. Newton South sophomore Allen Shiu came in a close second (15:21), with C-C junior Seamus Lawlor in third (15:26). “This is a sort of an awareness of where they are in their training,” said Newton South coach Ted Norton, whose team dropped its first two meets of the season. “I think the next week or two, we’re going to rechannel, rethink our strategy. L-S Runners Split Meet Against Acton-Boxborough

Warrior girls prevail 22-39; boys fall short, 31-26.

On Wednesday, in the last meet this season on their home course, the L-S girls cross country team soundly defeated Acton-Boxborough, 22-39, while the L-S boys were edged by A-B in a dramatic finish, 31-26. From the start of the girls race, L-S's Marika Crowe and A-B's Christine Davis quickly pulled ahead, setting up a duel that would last the entire race far ahead of the rest of the field. Emily Knaul and Katie LaScaleia set the pace for the pack pursuing Crowe and Davis. As the race neared the final half mile, Crowe opened up a lead on Davis, who was not able to respond. The top seven finishers for L-S were: Crowe, Knaul, LaScaleia, Brianna Bisson, Daniela Hargus, Sarah Mepham and Leah Potter. The boys race mirrored the girls race during …

Lincoln-Sudbury Cross Country Teams Sweep Opener

Girls: 23-32; boys: 17-48

In the afternoon heat and humidity of Wednesday, the Lincoln-Sudbury cross country teams kicked off the regular season on their home course with wins over Westford. The L-S girls outran Westford, 23-32, while the L-S boys posted near perfect score of 17-38. The first half of the girls race featured a pair of duels, with Marika Crowe closely following Westford's Emily Ruggerio, while Emily Knaul kept pace with Westford's Tia Caldwell. The Crowe-Ruggerio battle continued to the finish with Ruggerio taking first by a few strides, while Knaul dropped Caldwell in the wooded portion of the course. L-S Runner Andrea Keklak Honored

Warriors star chosen for Mahon award for third straight year.

On Sunday evening, Lincoln-Sudbury cross country star Andrea Keklak was recognized as the Michael P. Mahon Girls' Runner of the Year, earning the award for the third consecutive year. Keklak is only the second female cross country athlete in the 26-year history of the award to win three times. Additionally, Keklak also was recognized as the L-S Team MVP, and was selected to the Mahon Girls' All-Star Team. "Michael Mahon is a legend in cross country, and I'm honored to have been selected three times for the Runner of the Year," said Keklak, the 2009 and 2010 MIAA Division 1 state champion. Michael P.
