What Are the Pink-and-Red Equal Signs on Facebook?

Users are showing support for a cause by changing their profile pictures.

The bold yet simple graphic, of a pink equal sign inside a red block, originated with the Human Rights Campaign, as a social media/marketing campaign to garner support for Marriage Equality during the Supreme Court hearings [audio and trasncript from Tuesday] on the topic. The Human Rights Campaign describes itself as "the largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans." As you scroll through Facebook, you can find a variety of interpretations of the original symbol, some uploaded here. What's your take on this Facebook phenomenon?

Sudbury Social Tweetup Plans 17th Gathering

Sudbury residents Bob Cargill and Phil Hollows hold monthly social media lectures at Bistro 20.

An idea two Sudbury residents had more than a year ago has flourished as they plan to hold their 17th Sudbury Social Tweetup tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. at Bistro 20. The Sudbury Social Tweetup is an informal 2-hour gathering hosted by Bob Cargill and Phil Hollows and is open to anyone who wants to learn about the ins and outs of social media. "The purpose of this networking event is to bring together business people, marketers and professionals who live or work in Sudbury and the surrounding communities who want to meet others from the area and learn more about such social media channels as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and blogs," they say in their open online invitation.
