Watertown Shuts Down Lincoln-Sudbury Field Hockey Team

Watertown scored an early goal and blanked the Warriors attack.

Watertown field hockey continued their run of dominance on Wednesday, knocking off visiting Lincoln-Sudbury 1-0 on Victory Field. Lincoln-Sudbury, which is accustomed to playing on artificial turf, was forced to contend not only with the tough Watertown defense, but also the grass field. “We’re used to turf,” said L-S coach Vicki Caburian. “But ultimately it doesn’t matter what surface you play on, you have to play a good game.” Watertown scored it’s only goal in the first five minutes of the game and held on the rest of the way for the hard fought victory against Lincoln Sudbury. “This was our most intense game that we played all season,” said Watertown coach Eileen Donahue. “The girls needed to play a strong, powerful team like Lincoln-…

L-S Field Hockey Coach Wants More After Victory

The Warriors down C-C, 3-1, in delayed season-opener.

Some coaches might be satisfied with a 3-1 season-opening victory. Do not place Lincoln-Sudbury coach Vicky Caburian in that company as she watched her team defeat Concord-Carlisle Monday afternoon, but still desired more. “Not that, like, we want to run up the score or anything,” she said. “But if you set the ball so nicely, let’s finish those goals. Against better teams, hopefully we’ll score some more and do a little better job.” While the game was the Warriors' first of the season after two games were washed out last week, it was the Patriots' second as their record fell to 0-2 “I actually was really proud of our team,” said C-C coach Betsy Smith. “L-S has a tradition of being very good in the open field, and moving the ball well. I …

Acton-Boxborough Halts Lincoln-Sudbury Field Hockey Team's Postseason Run

The Warriors fall, 2-1, to league rival Colonials in the semifinals of the MIAA Division 1 North Sectional tournament.

READING — A third meeting of the season between fourth-seeded Lincoln-Sudbury field hockey team and top-seeded Acton-Boxborough ended with familiar results on Wednesday night. A-B senior Lindsey Gibbs slipped a goal through in the final minutes of the MIAA Division 1 North Sectional semifinals, helping eliminate the Warriors, 2-1, in another one-goal battle between the Dual County League Large leaders. "The teams are so evenly matched in terms of skill, ability and speed." said A-B coach Mae Shoemaker. "I do not know what it is with L-S and A-B. You can get it in your head. Whatever my players did, they got it out off their heads and onto the field." With A-B pressing in the last 15 minutes, the Colonials (21-0-0) managed to break a 1-1 …

L-S Field Hockey Team Trounces Methuen

Ganio, fourth-seeded Warriors dominate Rangers in second round of the MIAA Division 1 North Sectional tournament.

The Lincoln-Sudbury field hockey team wants the rest of the competition in the Division 1 North Sectional tournament to know one thing: They will be tough to beat. After cruising through the regular season and earning the fourth seed and a first-round bye in the tournament, the Warriors wanted their first playoff game to be a statement game for future opponents. After drubbing Methuen, 6-0, Friday afternoon at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, the Warriors' statement was made loud and clear. Senior Laura Ganio paced the Warriors attack with two goals and an assist, while junior Devon McCann added two goals. "That was our goal," Ganio said about this being a statement game. "We've been working really hard and we wanted it really bad." …
