William Miles sworn in at reception Thursday night.
Sudbury held a reception Thursday night to honor former Fire Chief Ken MacLean at Grange Hall. Residents, firefighters and police officer came to honor MacLean’s years of public service to the town, and also to swear in his successor, William Miles. Grange Hall was teeming with well-wishers, including fire chiefs from neighboring Wayland, Lincoln, Acton and Concord. Heartfelt speeches and congratulations were given to MacLean, honoring his contribution to the town. “When we dial the phone, you guys pick up and save lives,” Chairman of the Sudbury Board of Selectmen John Drobinski said. “To me, that’s the epitome of what public service is about, and Ken is the epitome of what a public servant is.” Badges of silver and gold adorned each …

According to the Town of Sudbury website, Town Manager Maureen Valente announced that Captain William "Bill" Miles will be the new chief of the Sudbury Fire Department, effective Feb. 1. Miles will replace Chief Ken MacLean, who is retiring after having served as chief for the past six years. "Captain Miles' many years of experience with the Sudbury Fire Department make him an ideal candidate for the job," said Valente in a released statement. "He has come up through the ranks, and he is well respected by the men in the Department. Assistant Town Manager Maryanne Bilodeau says she's made an offer to an out-of-town applicant.
Sudbury's vacant assistant fire chief position may soon be filled, according to Assistant Town Manager Maryanne Bilodeau. Bilodeau said Wednesday an offer as been made to an out-of-town applicant, but because the applicant has yet to accept or refuse the offer, she can't mention who it is. "Nothing is finalized, yet," she said. "I won't have more until next week." Bilodeau said if the applicant does accept the offer, she hopes to have that person on board by the beginning of December. The salary range is $72,492 to $78,287. The minimum requirements for the position include: an associate's degree in fire science (a bachelor's degree in fire science is preferred); public administration or a related field preferred; 10 years of firefighting …

Mike Carroll retires next Friday.
With Assistant Fire Chief Mike Carroll retiring next Friday, the Town of Sudbury has begun its search for his replacement. Fire Chief Kenneth MacLean and Assistant Town Manager Maryanne Bilodeau began interviewing five candidates last week. They were chosen from a group of 17 who applied. Sudbury Town Manager Maureen Valente said Carroll has done an outstanding job for the town during his 32 years of service.. "The fire chief and I are in agreement on that," she said.
