L-S Girls Cross Country Team Takes 2nd at All-States

The loss was the first of the season for the Warriors.

(EDITOR'S NOTE: The following was submitted to Sudbury Patch.) Peabody handed the Lincoln-Sudbury girls cross country team its first defeat of the season by the slim margin of nine points at Saturday’s All-State Division 1 Championship race in Northfield. Peabody’s nationally ranked senior, Catarina Rocha, was determined to make her last high school race in Massachusetts count as she dominated the field and cruised to a 45 second victory finishing first in a time of 18:06. L-S sophomore standout Sydney Clary made sure the scoring would be close with an outstanding ninth-place finish in a time of 19:28. Lincoln-Sudbury's Keklak a Force at MSTCA meet

Senior runner won the Division 1 junior-senior cross country race.

On Saturday a number of Lincoln-Sudbury cross country athletes posted outstanding performances at the MSTCA Coaches Invitational Cross Country Meet on the 3.1-mile fairgrounds course at the Wrentham Development Center. In the Junior-Senior Division 1 girls race, Andrea Keklak finished first after a back-and-forth battle with Andover's Maggie Mullens.   "It was a good race and great preparation for the divisional and state races coming up in the next two weeks," said Keklak. The race went out quickly. Within the first mile, Keklak, Mullins and Franklin's Megan Ross had broken ahead of the rest of the field by nearly 45 seconds.  The trio stayed in a tight pack past the 2-mile point, where Ross dropped off.  Mullins and Keklak continued to …

Lincoln-Sudbury Girls XC Team Earns DCL Title

Warriors head into postseason after sweep of Newton South, Wayland.

In their final dual meets of the season on Wednesday, the Lincoln-Sudbury girls cross country team posted a 20-40 win over perennial rival Newton-South and a 15-48 near sweep of Wayland.  The wins completed a five-year dual meet winning streak, and earned L-S the DCL regular-season league championship title. Running in a pack for the first 1.5 miles, the squad positioned itself to capture consecutive low-point positions. The strategy worked, with the first five L-S runners finishing within 40 seconds near the front of the race.  Andrea Keklak and Marika Crowe crossed the finish line at approximately 17:00, followed by Megan Broecker at 17:25, Emily Knaul at 17:34 and Katie LaScaleia at 17:39, all before the second N-S runner and the first …

Warriors Girls Cross Country Team Squeaks Out a Double Victory

L-S slips past Weston, C-C at home.

On their home course on Wednesday, the Lincoln-Sudbury cross country girls squad narrowly preserved their 4 1/2-year dual meet winning streak.  With the closest possible score, L-S defeated Dual County League rival Weston, 27-28, and outran Concord-Carlisle, 23-32. Reminiscent of last week's race with Acton-Boxboro, the Warriors race started slowly in a large pack. At the 400-meter mark, L-S's Andrea Keklak and several Weston and C-C runners separated from the pack, and remained only seconds ahead going into the woods. When the racers emerged from the woods, Keklak was 20 seconds ahead of three runners from Weston and one from C-C, who were followed by L-S's Marika Crowe. Keklak extended her lead to more than 30 seconds to finish at 16:36…
