200 free relay team again bests Westford Academy to take first place.
On Saturday the Lincoln-Sudbury girls Swim and Dive team, led by captains Emma Jarczyk, Catherine MacKeen, Leah McCabe and Alicia Perry, concluded their season at the Division One State Championships held at Springfield College. This is the meet that everyone has been working toward all year. Perry said, “Our team’s performance at states was a great representation of the hard work and dedication our team has put forth all season.” The meet was high energy and filled with great and exciting swims by everyone involved. Last Friday, the Lincoln-Sudbury girls swim and dive team competed in the Dual County League Championship meet. The team has been preparing for this meet the entire season and they did not disappoint. Everyone had great swims and a couple of girls made post-season for the first time at the last meet they could possibly do it. The attitude of the girls at the meet was great and captain Alicia Perry said “the energy and positivity was higher than it has been all season and it clearly showed in and out of the pool. I am so proud of each and every one of the girls on our team.” The girls DCL diving took place two days before the swim meet. Last Friday, the Lincoln-Sudbury girls swim and dive team had its last dual meet of the season against powerhouse rival Wayland. It was an emotional day for some as it was the last dual meet for the senior girls, including Sammi Alarie, Ann-Marie Billig, Nathalie Cabrera, Shay Darcey, Taylor Dawson, Emma Jarczyk, Catherine MacKeen, Leah McCabe, and Alicia Perry. The girls had worked very hard during the week to prepare for the tough meet but, even with some great swims, it wasn’t enough to beat Wayland. The final score was 81-100. Alicia Perry, Caroline Hultin, Lexi Barrera and Eugenia Almandoz dominate 200 IM.
(EDITOR'S NOTE: The following was submitted to Sudbury Patch.) Last Friday, the Lincoln-Sudbury girls swim and dive team faced Bedford High School for their second to last dual meet of the season. The girls ended up winning 99-57 due to a lot of fast swims and some amazing diving scores. The meet started off great with the team of Katherine O’Shea, Ansley Baker, Catherine MacKeen and Leah McCabe winning the 200 medley relay. Baker then took second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:06.80. She was quickly followed by MacKeen, Caroline Thomas and Emily Huang for second thru fifth in the event. A complete team effort powered the Lincoln-Sudbury girls swimmers and divers to a dramatic second-place finish with 202 points at the Division 1 State Meet on Sunday at Harvard University's Blodgett Pool. The gang of nine L-S athletes who met the stringent state meet qualifying standards included swimmers Megan Griffin, Catherine MacKeen, Alicia Perry, Leah McCabe, Jenny Genovese, Ansley Baker, and divers Kimberly Yang, Emma Jarczyk and Clara Shealy. Westford Academy finished first with 305 points. "With just six swimmers and three divers, we didn't have a big team this year," said senior captain Megan Griffin. On Saturday the Lincoln-Sudbury girls swim and dive team competed in the Division 1 North Sectionals at MIT, placing fifth out of 25 teams. The meet started off with the 200 medley relay. The team of Catherine MacKeen, Ansley Baker, Kim Yang and Leah McCabe came in fifth. The 200 free was won by Marblehead's Ryan Alexander with a very fast time of 1:52.76. In the 200 IM MacKeen dropped 8 seconds off her seed time for a time of 2:15.80 in eighth place. Megan Griffin, Jenny Genovese and Baker all scored in the 50 free. Griffin led with a third place finish in a time of 24.71. Yang scored 458.80 points in diving for third place, just 0.65 points separating second and third. The Lincoln-Sudbury girls swim and dive team finished a successful dual meet season with a competitive meet against a strong Wayland team last Tuesday. Catherine MacKeen, Ansley Baker, Alicia Perry and Leah McCabe started the meet strong, winning the 200 medley relay. In the 200 free Wayland swept the top three places, but Jenny Genovese swam a sectional qualifying time of 2:10.92 to come in fourth. Perry came in second in the 200 IM with a state qualifying time of 2:20.48. In the 50 free Megan Griffin won with a state time of 25.38 while McCabe and Baker came in third and fourth, both with sectional times. Kim Yang scored 261.27 points to win diving and Emma Jarczyk and Clara Shealy came in second and third for a sweep by the L-S girl …
