Scott Nassa defeats Matthew Barach for Sudbury Public Schools Committee seat.
He learned from his mistakes three years ago, and now he's newest member of the Sudbury Public Schools Committee. Scott Nassa narrowly defeated fellow challenger Matthew Barach, 1,257-1,191, Monday at Annual Town Election, three years after losing in the same race. "It's unbelievable," he said Monday night. "Just unbelievable." Nassa will replace current vice chair Lisa Gutch. Nassa said he was a little worried about the race after getting to know Barach over the past week. He said Barach is "a class act." "I hope he stays active with the committee," he said. "I really do like him." Nassa said in his first year he hopes to open the communication between the stakeholders and committee. "Like I said in my letters, I plan to have monthly …
Annual Town Election is today and resident Alison Whitebone shares who she's voting for for Sudbury Public Schools Committee.
It is with great enthusiasm that I support Matt Barach's candidacy for the Sudbury School Committee in the March town election. Matt is an active listener. He hears all sides, asks solid questions, and then suggests logical and creative solutions. I have witnessed Matt helping his clients solve difficult problems and developing new organizational systems when needed. Matt believes in giving everyone a voice and supports 3-5. He works with a wide spectrum of our town – inspiring our town soccer players, negotiating as a trustworthy lawyer, and serving on the Land Acquisition Review Committee. Matt wants all Sudbury students to achieve their highest potential and he has the experience and knowledge to help Sudbury achieve this mission. He …

Numerous residents write in to explain who they are voting for for Sudbury Public Schools Committee.
We write in support of the candidacy of Matthew Barach for the Sudbury Public School Committee. The education of children is one of the highest priorities of any community. This is certainly true for Sudbury and certainly true for those of us who have lived many years in Sudbury. We need leaders for our school system who have the wisdom, understanding and character to face and resolve, in a thoughtful, careful and intelligent manner, whatever issues, known and unknown, which may arise in our schools over the next three years and beyond. We need leaders for our school system who appreciate the importance of education and the need to use the tools of the 21st Century to better educate our children and to prepare them for life in the future…

Dr. Peter Masiakos, a Sudbury resident, says the SPS Committee would benefit have Barach as a member.
I believe that Matthew Barach is the best candidate for Sudbury Public Schools School Committee. My wife and I have lived in Sudbury for approximately eight years. We have two sons. Our oldest child is in 4th grade at Haynes Elementary School, and our youngest will start kindergarten in the fall of 2014. Like many, we were attracted to Sudbury because of the excellence of the public school system. As parents of two young children, we have a vested interest in ensuring that SPS can continue to provide high quality education in a financially sustainable manner, especially in the current economic climate. As this time of privation takes more out of our school systems, we need a voice of reason who will build bridges rather than walls between …

Matthew Barach, candidate for Sudbury Public Schools Committee, shares his plan to better the town and its schools.
Sudbury public schools will continue to face a number of challenges over the next few years. We need to face these challenges together to keep improving our schools. I am committed to working with everyone to strengthen our community as we celebrate the town’s 375th anniversary in 2014. Let’s start the process of meaningful dialogue, mutual respect, and find real change and improvement in our town. First, additional representative democracy will help heal our community and bring people together by giving more residents a voice in our discussions. This is why I am I favor of moving from 3 to 5 selectman. My focus will always be on our schools, but effective collaboration between our two school committees and all our town boards will only …

Scott Nassa and Matthew Barach are vying for the lone seat up for grabs on March 25 for Annual Town Election.
Sudbury Public Schools Committee candidates Scott Nassa and Matthew Barach agreed to take part in a Q&A where the voters submitted questions on Sudbury Patch. Sudbury Patch editor Robert Fucci randomly chose four questions that were submitted. Neither candidate voiced concerns over the questions chosen. Here are their answers. 1. As a member of the SPSC, how would you work to restore the broken trust that many people feel after the negative events of the past year? SN: I think the key to rebuilding trust is to work towards improved two-way communication. It is not enough to send formal emails, the SPSC must work better to invite stakeholder comments, and be ready to respond. Here are a few specific thoughts if you chose to elect me: • In …

Matthew Barach, candidate for Sudbury Public Schools Committee, would like to see incoming sixth-graders with tablet devices throughout their time at the middle school.
It is imperative that Sudbury Public Schools’ commitment to upgrading technological infrastructure and use of cutting-edge technology both remain priorities to aide our teachers and enrich the students’ education. To further these goals, Sudbury schools should develop a program to ensure that every sixth-grader upon entry to the middle school is granted the use of an iPad, or similar tablet device, for the duration of their time at Curtis. This program will enhance the middle school experience, ensure that SPS continues to deliver innovative classroom instruction, and be an exciting addition of tools available to students making the transition from elementary to middle school. Wellesley Public Schools recently announced a similar …

Matthew Barach announces candidacy for Sudbury Public Schools Committee.
My name is Matthew Barach and I am announcing my candidacy for Sudbury Public Schools School Committee. Sudbury schools must continue to excel and exceed expectations. Effective leadership, management and vision are all necessary to maintain the quality of education that our schools provide for our children. It is imperative that we continue to provide our children with a safe, innovative and challenging environment to learn and grow as students and as people. As a parent of a first-grader and a fourth-grader at Nixon, I recognize the importance of working with our administrators, supporting our teachers and exchanging ideas with fellow residents to improve education in our community. We must find more opportunities for collaboration …

The committee's lone open seat will go to either Scott Nassa or Matthew Barach.
Annual Town Election is a little more than a month away and the one race that will likely be the most anticipated is the one for Sudbury Public Schools Committee. The race for that seat will be between Scott Nassa, who ran unsuccessfully two years ago, and Matthew Barach. If you could sit down with either candidate before the election, what questions would you like answered? Tell us in the comments section below. Sudbury Patch will choose four at random and present them to the candidates, similar to last year when Larry O'Brien and Dan De Pompei volunteered to answer questions in this fashion. Only questions relevant to the race for SPS will be considered.
