Letter to the Editor: Gun Laws Need to Change

A letter to the editor from Kendall Hope Tucker.

Dear Senator-elect Warren, I know that you, like all Americans, are grieving after this week's tragic shooting at the Newtown, Conn., elementary school. I myself am overwhelmed with sadness at yet another senseless shooting. Beyond these feelings of grief, I am also overwhelmed by the feeling that, as soon as this horrible tragedy leaves the headlines, once again our nation will carry on with the same gun laws that allow deadly weapons to fall into the hands of the mentally ill.  Every time one of these horrendous incidents occurs, we hear talk about how things need to change, but nothing ever happens. I understand how difficult this issue is politically. That is why I have chosen to write to you. You were just chosen to represent …

Kendall should have also addressed our sitting United States Senators John Kerry and Scott Brown, too. Kendall is wrong in blaming law for landing the deadly guns into a mentally ill criminal. The guns were registered to the mother, a victim of her mentally ill murderer/homicidal son. Our gun laws had the guns registered to the mother, not to the shooter-killer. The selectman in a neighboring …   more ›

Candlelight Vigil Planned in Sudbury to Help End Gun Violence

Resident Micki Reinhorn encouraging others to gather today at 5 p.m. at Haskell Field.

(EDITOR'S NOTE: The following is a message on the webpage MoveOn.org.) Dear friends, Yesterday was a defining moment in our nation’s history. Our second amendment, as interpreted by the supreme court, allowed an armed 20 year old to MURDER twenty young children and 6 adults INSIDE AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. My heart goes out to all those that are affected, in Newtown, CT and beyond. This kind of gun violence must stop, and the time is now. While legislators, justices and politicians can debate about the constitution, laws and the “right to bear arms”, we must be clear that this is a debate about a country that allows for the repeated senseless murdering of our children! I can imagine the emotions in Newtown CT, now and for years to come, …

Sounds like Rep. Markey is already campaigning for the Senate. Just what we need, yet another knee-jerk, lock-step, group-think left-wing liberal career politician. One who has no shame & is using this awful tragedy for political gain. Where's your outrage over Fast & Furious, Mr. Markey? Body count in the US not high enough (we've no clue how many innocents have potentially been harmed by all …   more ›
