Midweek Storm to Bring Strong Winds, Possible Snow

Massachusetts bracing for another storm with effects from Sandy still being felt.

First Sandy, and now a Nor'easter. Massachusetts is in store for more wild weather this week as a Nor'easter heads our way today and into Thursday morning. According to WHDH meteorologist Chris Lambert, the area can expect to see the storm hit between 2 and 4 p.m. "What I've noticed over the last few model runs is a track farther east," Lambert said on his blog. "If that's the case, our wind stays more out of the NNE rather than going east, and that means colder weather gets locked in.  It also means that dew point levels stay low. That's important because with dew points running near 20 and actual air temperatures tomorrow afternoon running near 40-45, a process called evaporative cooling can occur which allows rain to turn to snow. (UPDATED: 10:35 P.M.) October Snowstorm Expected to Bring Power Outages

Heavy, wet snow and strong wind likely to bring down branches tonight.

(EDITOR'S NOTE: The National Weather Service increased the predicted amount of snow to 6 to 10 inches. WHDH Ch. 7, WCVB Ch. 5 and WBZ Ch. 4 are predicting up to 12 inches.) Get ready, Sudbury ... this snowstorm means business. The National Weather Service upgraded the winter storm watch to a warning earlier Saturday, and warned residents in the Metrowest area, including Sudbury, of wet, heavy snow that could accumulate anywhere from 6 to 10 inches. "Rain is breaking out now and will soon transition to rain and snow," meteorologist Charlie Foley told Sudbury Patch at 3 p.m. "There will likely be higher totals just west in the higher elevations." Gov. Deval Patrick has declared a State of Emergency in response to the impacts of the storm. …

Winter Storm Watch Issued for Sudbury

Power outages, 2 to 5 inches of snow possible.

Sudbury residents awoke Friday morning to the season's first coating of snow on grassy surfaces and cars, and now they may want to dig out the shovels for a possible weekend Nor'easter. The National Weather Service in Taunton has issued a winter storm watch for the Metrowest region, including Sudbury, with anywhere from 2 to 5 inches of heavy, wet snow possible. "It's going to be dependent on the storm track," said meteorologist Bill Simpson. "With the ocean temperatures in lower 50s and the storm track, there will be a warm influx. Metrowest will be mostly rain until the storm passes by Nantucket and the winds change to the north." The watch is for Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning. The main impact of this storm will be heavy, wet…

Winter Storm Watch Downgraded in Sudbury

Forecast now calls for 3 to 5 inches.

A fickle spring snow storm that was predicted to drop as much as a foot of snow in Sudbury has taken a turn for the better. According to the National Weather Service, the winter storm watch that was supposed to start tonight has been downgraded to a winter weather advisory, with 3 to 5 inches of snow predicted. Forecasts for this storm have changed all week, starting as all rain, to a major snow storm, and now to a moderate storm. The nor'easter is expected to pass near Cape Cod, allowing enough cold air to wrap in from the northeast to allow snow to fall late tonight through Friday. Here's what local meteorolgists are predicting as of 2:45 p.m. Thursday: The advisory will be in effect from 8 p.m., tonight to 2 a.m., Saturday. Wind from …

Two Feet of Snow for Sudbury?

National Weather Service says it's possible before storm winds down.

UPDATED: 9:15 P.M. As if the Blizzard of 2010 wasn't bad enough. The January Nor'easter is pounding Southern New England with heavy snowfall, gusty winds and near whiteout conditions today. According to the National Weather Service, Sudbury and surrounding towns are in line for 19 to 24 inches of snow. See the map below for the estimated snowfall. WBZ reported Sudbury had 20 inches as of 9 p.m. Schools in Sudbury are scheduled to be open without delay according to Sudbury Public Schools Superintendent John Brackett and Lincoln-Sudbury Regional Superintenedent Scott Carpenter. A change in the overnight weather could possibly change that, Carpenter told Sudbury Patch. "At this point, we are planning to open schools (Thursday) at the regular …

Season's First Nor'Easter May Strike Friday

Expect windy, raw conditions Friday; clearing by Saturday in the afternoon.

A beautiful stretch of autumn weather will come to a screeching halt Friday as Sudbury braces for possibly the first nor'easter of the season. By late today, low pressure is expected to develop off the Eastern Seaboard and intensify Friday, moving near the New England coastline. "It will be nice (today)," said Alan Dunham, a National Weather Service meteorologist based in Taunton. "Clouds will develop in the afternoon, with rain moving in Thursday night. But there could be some light showers in the afternoon." Today's high temperature is expected to reach 63 degrees. Winds will be out of the southeast, changing to east-northeast by the end of the day, according to weather.com. The heaviest of rain is expected during the day on Friday, …
