Discussion: Who Would You Like to See Run for SPS Committee?

Lisa Gutch is up for re-election, but she hasn't made public whether she plans on running again.

There's no doubt the angst between Sudbury parents and the Sudbury Public Schools Committee after the Janice Donahue saga, and most recently the Peter Fardig resignation. For months parents have pleaded with Superintendent Anne Wilson and Committee members for clarity: The questions go on and on. And despite an online No Confidence petition against Wilson that has garnered more than 180 signatures, the Committee not only has given her its full support, but it also recently extended her contract and awarded her with a raise. In just a few short months, Sudbury parents and other residents will have the final say when Annual Town Election takes place. Vice Chair Lisa Gutch is up for re-election, although she hasn't publicly committed to …

Oh sorry Chris, I thought I asked you for an answer to my question. In case you missed it, I will ask it again: If Lisa really cared about what the parents had to say, then why did she not vote to extend open forum for 15 minutes at 8:30 (which would have made it much easier for the room full of parents who wanted to speak)?   more ›

Former Curtis Teacher: I Just Want to Move on With My Career

Brooke Patterson says quitting her position and taking a job in Hudson was 'the right move for me.'

(EDITOR'S NOTE: Sudbury Patch's interview with Brooke Patterson happened before the resignation of Peter Fardig.) Former Curtis Middle School special education teacher Brooke Patterson wants the public to know how much she appreciated her time spent with Sudbury Public Schools and how much she admired Prinicpal Steven Lambert and administrator Peter Fardig. Patterson, who suddenly left her post in September to take a job at JFK Middle School in Hudson, told Sudbury Patch she wanted to clear up the reasons behind her departure. "I appreciate getting my side of story out," she said. "There seems to be a lot of confusion." Patterson said she gave Superintendent Anne Wilson two weeks notice, hand-delivering a resignation letter in September, …

Haynes Elementary School continues to thrive and serve the needs of students, parents, teachers and the community, according to school officials who presented the Sudbury Public Schools Committee with "A State of the School" address at its Wednesday night meeting, which was held in the auditorium at Haynes. "We enjoy the opportunity to hold these meetings at the different schools, at least once a year," said Committee Chair Rich Robison about the change in venue from the usual Senior Center location. DCF: 51A Filed Against Curtis Middle School Administrator

Peter Fardig is the second person this year employed at Sudbury Public Schools to face accusations against a student.

Peter Fardig, the Curtis Middle School administrator who was put on leave Thursday by Superintendent Anne Wilson, is facing a possibly similar fate former Noyes Elementary School teacher Janice Donahue suffered through earlier this year after it was learned he is facing a 51A report. Cayenne Isaksen of the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families confirmed in an email on Saturday that a 51A report has been filed against Fardig, but did not go into further details about the case. When DCF receives a report of abuse and/or neglect, called a 51A report, from either a mandated reporter or another concerned citizen, DCF is required to evaluate the allegations and determine the safety of the children. Fardig: I Can't Comment on Anything

The Curtis Middle School administrator was put on paid leave yesterday .

Peter Fardig, the Curtis Middle School administrator who was put on leave Thursday by Superintendent Anne Wilson, is being forced to stay quiet on the matter, he told Sudbury Patch when reached at his home Friday afternoon. "I'm not supposed to comment," he said. As a parent who worked closely with Peter Fardig for a year regarding a student having significant difficulties I can say that he is thoughtful, patient, and professional. He worked tirelessly to improve a program for students with behavioral issues that had been poorly run and poorly staffed. He put the needs of the students above all else and It is almost impossible for me to believe that he …   more ›

The following is an email sent to Curtis Middle School parents from Superintendent Anne Wilson: I am writing to inform you that Mr. Fardig, 8th Grade House Administrator, has been placed on paid administrative leave beginning today, October 11, 2012, pending an investigation into certain allegations. Please understand that state law prevents me from commenting further at this time due to the ongoing investigation of this personnel matter, but we can assure you that these allegations do not involve any threatened harm to students. Because the investigation is ongoing, we have made no final determination as to the merits of the allegations.
