Selectmen Support Memorial for First Lt. Scott Milley

Willis Lake will be the site of a reflection area honoring the fallen Army Ranger.

Sudbury residents in the neighborhood where First Lt. Scott F. Milley was raised began work on a plan to honor their hero 18 months ago. On Tuesday, that plan was presented to the Board of Selectmen. Residents want to build a memorial in honor of the Army Ranger who died in combat in Afghanistan on Nov. 30, 2010, at Willis Lake, a place he frequented often as a child. "Neighbors started to circulate this idea 18 months ago and have been organizing and meeting on this since," said Bob Chandler. Chandler said numerous site visits have been made from various parties, and most abutters have been made aware of the plan. "We met with (Town Manager) Maureen Valente, (Park & Rec. Director) Nancy McShea, (DPW Director) Bill Place, (Conservation …

Veterans Plaque Dedicated at Lincoln-Sudbury

New plaque honors L-S grads who have served in the military since the 9/11 attacks.

At an intimate ceremony at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School on Saturday, veterans gathered with friends, family, and other supporters for the dedication of a new plaque honoring former students who have served in the armed forces since the terrorist attacks of 9/11. The event was particularly poignant given the loss of Sudbury Marine Michael Ronner at Camp Pendleton in California last week. The death is being treated as a suicide, and those in attendance on Saturday observed a moment of silence in Lance Corporal Ronner’s honor. Student Senate President Emily Casey, who helped champion the creation of the plaque, read aloud each of the dozens of names of L-S alumni who have served in the armed forces over the past decade. “This plaque …

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Remember Those Who Are Serving Our Country

Sudbury Veterans Agent Brian Stearns reminds residents the anniversary of the death of First Lt. Scott Milley is Wednesday.

As we reflect upon the past year, please take a moment to remember our military men and women that serve our great nation at home and abroad. Without their selfless sacrifices, we would not enjoy the freedoms that sometimes are taken for granted. The turmoil and uprisings this past year in several middle-eastern and North African nations including Egypt and Libya are testaments to what freedom means to our human race. In their struggle to be free, the people have decided that it is their human right to enjoy the liberties and happiness that other nations, such as America, enjoy. Last November 30th we lost one of our young warriors in defense of freedom in Afghanistan. Lt. Scott Milley epitomized the term selfless; “the act of sacrificing …
