Sudbury Native's Restaurant Honored by Boston Magazine

80 Thoreau in Concord named Best of Boston New Restaurant, West.

The past 16 months have been quite the ride for Sudbury's Ian Calhoun. In that time, he opened 80 Thoreau in Concord, a fine dining restaurant at the Depot, and this week was honored by Boston Magazine. In the annual Best of Boston edition, 80 Thoreau was named Best New Restaurant, West. "I'm definitely humbled," Calhoun said. "It's been very exciting. It's exceeded my expectations." Calhoun said in the time the restaurant has been open (April 21, 2011), he's received strong support from local diners, and has enjoyed building a regular crowd. "We do get some people from Boston, but it's about those who come once a week who help make us a success," he said. "We try to give you the experience you expect in Boston." On the Boston Magazine …

Christo Driving School Opens New Classroom in Sudbury

The third-generation business will begin teaching in June in the Rugged Bear Plaza.

"Every kid will be treated like my own." That's the message Michael Christo wants Sudbury parents to know as he prepares to open his driving school's newest office next month in the Rugged Bear Plaza. The Christo Driving School has been around since 1951, serving teen drivers and their parents from Westborough to Lexington and about 17 other towns in between. And the reason the school has survived all these years is because the Christos view student drivers as family. "Keeping these kids safe is our main goal," Christo says. "It takes a lot of patience. You never want to see anything bad happen. I'd be heartbroken." He and his brother, Chris, took over the driving school from their parents a couple of years ago, although his father, …

Bistro 20 Aims to Boost Funds for Lincoln-Sudbury Athletics

The Boston Post Road restaurant will donate 10 percent of the sales to those residents who use its catering service for graduation parties.

Bistro 20 owner Ali Bigdeliazari says the Town of Sudbury instantly embraced his restaurant after opening 2010. Now its time for Bigdeliazari to give back. From now until Aug. 1, Bigdeliazari is offering his catering services to anyone in town who plans on hosting a graduation party. Ten percent of the those sales will be donated to the L-S Boosters Club and Lincoln-Sudbury athletic department. "We're trying to be a good neighbor and give back to the community," Bigdeliazari said. "I started thinking about this a month and a half ago. I talked to a couple of parents who come here all the time. They thought it was a great idea. We've been involved with the football program, cheerleading program and soccer, and this was one way that we could…

Koko Aims to Get Sudbury on the Go-Go (Video)

Sudbury's newest fitness club offers residents a new, high-tech way to get and stay in shape.

Take a couple steps into Koko FitClub and one immediately notices this is not your typical gym. A pleasant aroma greets you, along with bamboo plants and upbeat music. The feel is more of a spa than a gym. Walls lack mirrors. Stacks of dumbbells and free weights don't clutter the floor. This is what co-owners Paul Romeo and Adam Landry believe is the best way to invite those wishing to get in shape. "The whole environment is very different from a typical gym. You can tell right when you walk through the door it doesn't look or smell like a gym. It's got a little more of a relaxing vibe," Romeo says. "We have a friendly staff. We try to get to know all of our members on a first-name basis. And we are as invested into their success as they …

But Friday the 13th was her last day in the shop located in the Whole Foods Market shopping center.  “Everybody has been so wonderful. I will miss the people,” Rosenberg said, explaining that she has customers who have been coming to her since 1989 when she first opened an alterations business on Pelham Island Road. “We’re growing old together,” she said, smiling.  At the beginning of 2012, Rosenberg turned over her business, which she moved to its current location in 1990, to her longtime colleagues, …
