Nix: Former Chief Did Not Have Weapon During Arrest

The acting Sudbury police chief says Richard Glavin's department-related property was in the station Thursday night.

Despite an online report, acting Sudbury Police Chief Scott Nix says the department did not have to reclaim former Chief Richard Glavin's weapon following his arrest Thursday night. Nix said Glavin's gun, badge and other department-related property was already in the station when Glavin was arrested on multiple charges in his hometown of Tyngsboro. "Once the department became aware of the circumstances, he made us aware where his weapon was in the station," Nix said. "He was totally cooperative." Following the Thursday night incident, Tyngsboro police took possession of Glavin's town-owned car and towed it. Sudbury officers retrieved the car the next day, Nix said. Selectmen Agree New Police Station Overdue

Construction would take place on Hudson Road near the Fire Department Headquarters.

The Board of Selectmen was unanimous in agreeing construction of a new police station is needed. Now they have to sell it to the rest of the town. During Tuesday night's meeting, Bill Braun of the Blue Ribbon Committee said residents would be happy to know the cost of the project, which voters rejected six years ago, has gone down. The original plan had an $8.2 million price tag in 2007, but after tweaking the plan it should come in near $7 million. "We need this for the community," Police Chief Richard Glavin said. "This building will house the police department and offer something back to community, as well," explaining that a meeting space will be able to be utilized by the general public. Braun said the committee was able to reduce the…

If money is so cheap how come Sudbury has to keep asking the taxpayers for more and more of it? This town has a spending problem and cannot control it. What roofs will need to replace rather than fix next year? How many school superintendents do we need in town? Why do we give free housing to people who sit on boards? When are we going to go after Lincoln for not paying their fair share for so …   more ›

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Sudbury PD Deserves Our Appreciation

Resident Scott Nassa he's proud to live in a town with an honorable police department.

On behalf of myself and my family and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Sudbury Police Department for all that they do in the course of serving and protecting our town. I have recently read and heard a lot around town in regard to the May 8 Lavender incident.  While I think the whole incident is an absolute mess and an embarrassment for Sudbury, I find the rumors that the police tried to "cover it up" to be absolute nonsense. If they wanted to cover it up they could have easily not issued an OUI. If they wanted to cover it up they could have easily not cited Lavender for violating their liquor license. They did both and they did both objectively and with integrity despite the fact that their bosses — the town manager and …
