Local Deals Abound for Veterans Day

Local businesses salute our service men and women with special deals year-round as well as on Veterans Day.

(EDITOR'S NOTE: An earlier version of this story said Subway was giving out free six-inch subs. A Subway representative tells us this is inaccurate; Subway restaurants have replaced the local promotion of past years with a national-level partnership with Wounded Warrior Project, and they area donating $111,112 to help veterans in lieu of offering free sandwiches locally.) A number of local businesses are saluting veterans, military servicemen and women, and their families this Veterans Day by offering local discounts, specials and promotions. Here's a guide to specials in the area, mostly taken from themilitarywallet.com. Two important notes:   Free food:   Store discounts:   Free activities:

Army Ranger from Sudbury was posthumously inducted to the UNH ROTC Hall of Fame on Friday.

Dear Scott, I've never tried writing a letter like this, but I feel I must try. You do not know me. And to be honest I don't know you. But I've had the pleasure to learn who you are this past year. And from what I've learned, you are the type of person who easily befriends those you meet. It's hard to believe the first time I heard your name was almost one year ago. And deservedly so. You made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. You defined what a true hero is. You are an inspiration. Last week, your family reached out to mine and asked us to stand by them …
