UPDATED: Black Bear Seen in Fairbank Road Neighborhood

Sudbury police advise residents to close garage doors and bring in bird feeders

The Sudbury Police Department reports the last sighting of the bear was just after 7 a.m. in the Fairbank Road neighborhood.

"It's probably going to be here a couple days," Lt. Robert Grady said. "Still no reports of aggression from the bear."

The Fairbank Road neighborhood is heavily wooded and the bear is believed to have headed into that area.

UPDATED: 9:16 A.M., MAY 23

Stubtoe Lane resident Mark Foster says the bear was in his back yard this morning at 6 at a bird feeder. Sudbury police arrived in 2-3 minutes and tracked it down Country Village to Old Forge.

UPDATED: 8:43 P.M.

We never received word from the superintendent's office. But a reader has reported the bear was seen about an hour ago in the vicinity of Saxony and Hudson.

UPDATED: 12:23 P.M.

An administrator at Noyes Elementary School refused comment when asked if students were being kept indoors today. The superintendent's office had yet to make a statement as of 12:23 p.m.

Sudbury and Environmental police have been monitoring the neighborhoods where the bear was last seen.

UPDATED: 10:47 A.M.

A Concord Road resident reported seeing the black bear cross her driveway.

The resident described the bear at "not small" and was heading in the direction of Town Center.

Sudbury residents in the King Philip, Massasoit Avenue and Indian Ridge neighborhoods reported to Sudbury police seeing a black bear this morning.

The sightings happened within the last 30 minutes.

"Call the police if you see it," Lt. Robert Grady said. "Close your garage doors and bring in your bird feeders."

Grady said there have been no reports of the bear being aggressive.

A black bear was recently seen in the towns of Acton, Boxborough, Weston and Lincoln.
